MacBook Pro Color Distortion

Hie All

I have a MacBook Pro (15inch, 2019) that I started using in December 2020. I have not had any problems with it until yesterday. I opened the launchpad and there was a flicker on the screen, then the colours have been distorted with screen flickering.

I have tried a restart and nothing has changed.

Hi novuyo_zw,

We see that your MacBook Pro is currently showing a flicker on the display while using it. Let's see how we can help out.

First, test in safe mode to see if it persists: How to use safe mode on your Mac. It’s a way to start up your Mac so it performs certain checks, repairs, emptying of system cache, and prevents some software from automatically loading. This will let us know whether issues you’re experiencing are caused by software that loads as your Mac starts up. With this being said, after testing in safe mode, restart and log in as normal to see if that helps resolve the issue.

We also want to see if it's happening while in recovery mode: Mac startup key combinations. You can just use Command (⌘)-R to boot up in recovery and you don't have to take any other steps in there other than observing to see if the flickering stops or continues. You can then restart your Mac as normal to get out of recovery.

Once we hear back from you with results after performing the above steps, we'll have a better idea on next steps to continue assisting.

Take care!

I have put it in safe mode and that didn't change . In recovery mode the flicker is there with distorted color as well. I have formatted it and currently re installing the software MacOS Big Sur but the flicker and distortion are still there .

This sounds like a hardware issue at this point. If it was a software issue, it wouldn't be there during the time that the computer was doing the restore and installing macOS. At this point, doesn't sound like you have much more of an option than to just take the computer to a service center such as an Apple store or a certified service center and have it checked out. Depending on how old the computer is, it may still be under warranty, but it is definitely going to need to be serviced to get this issue resolved.
