Thank you for posting in Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you're unable to add your email address to your Mac. We'll be glad to take a closer look into this.
What happens when you follow these steps to add your email account? Add or remove email accounts in Mail on Mac
You may need to gather the server settings from your mail provider. To get help with this, contact your mail provider.
Depending on your mail account, you may be able to retrieve the server settings using this link: Mail - Official Apple Support

Thanks Corrie84, my problem is that none of Telstra’s server settings work. I have a really old bigpond email and have had it set up on my Mac for four years. Suddenly stopped accepting password so I deleted and tried to add it again - using the same settings - and no go!!!!

Does your email address end in @telstra.com or @ telstra.net.au ?
Can you login to Telstra Webmail to check that it is working ?
Are you using the NBN broadband ? Is this a recent connection to NBN ?
What email client are you using ? Apple Mail or Thunderbird etc.
Were you using IMAP or POP.
Hi peevans, thanks for responding. It’s a really old bigpond.com email address using apple mail. Tried both pop and imap. Can still get on phone which is imap but those settings don’t work on Mac. Using NBN but not new. Was all working fine with pop and mail.bigpond.com for incoming and outgoing. Stopped accepting my password so gave up and deleted account. Now won’t accept anything?
