Adapter VGA screen to MacBook Air 2017

Hello, I have a MacBook Air 2017 and an old external screen that worked with my previous MacBook Pro. I tried it recently and find it can’t except the male VGA adapter. I can’t seem to find an adaptor on the Mac site that I’m confident will work with my MacBook Air. I think it has 2 USB 3 (old fashioned) and one thunderbolt port. Can someone tell me what to get? Thank you!
