bellsouth.net email not working iOS 14.4.1

After updating to iOS 14.4.1 one of my 2 Bellsouth.net (ATT) email accounts stopped working. It keeps saying the password has not been entered, which of course I’ve entered a dozen times. ATT says it is an Apple issue, since I can access the account on my computer. All advice appreciated!

Hi Sandy,

I just spent the last hour scavenging the internet with the same problem.

Lawrence's info clicked with something I read in the beginning, there is something you need called "secure mail key"

you get this when you log into att.com with your bellsouth.net ID.

Go to Profile

-> Scroll to bottom of page, left side under My Linked Accounts

---->Click "Manage Secure Email Key"

-------> Name it: "IPhone" (or whatever), then click next and a key will come on the screen.

------------>Start the process of creating a new email account with the other option from the beginning and us the Secure email key for your password and the iPhone will do the rest.

I know other ATT email users that are using IOS devices and have not been effected. And I believe it is because they didn’t change their passwords and are working without any problems, as long as they don’t change their ATT email/Account passwords. And yes they are on the newest flavor of IOS.

I think it has something to do with the

https://currently.att.yahoo.com/ changes.

I Wish APPLE would add ATT as a Choice in their Mail APP, and if necessary add the other top Internet Providers (To show no biases) and make it very easy for us non technical customers to add their email accounts easily.

To me the APPLE IOS Mail APP is a neutral choice for using as a email APP.

They are NOT trying to sell or advertise anything in the APP, that I can remember.

They have a record and reputation of Super Tight Security. So that is why I wish they would stay neutral and make it show that they are neutral by fixing the Mail add account feature to Show ATT as a Choice, and Yahoo as it’s own Choice, and all the others too, Please?

Today 4/28/2021 the ATT servers must be back up. I was able to add my ATT email account back to my IPhone and IPad using Yahoo as the pre-Choice (such as AOL, I-Cloud, Yahoo, etc.. Other).

The ATT server outages were stopping IOS to verify our ATT email credentials and to allow password changes, BuT the servers with the email data for users already setup and not changing passwords, we’re up and running and not effected by outages. This was NOT a IOS problem. I am now on IOS 14.5 and I did not have to add a secure key! I believe I am still using Oauth built into the APPLE IOS Mail APP and ATT Email System. Please correct me if I’m wrong.

Thanks

Look at the other posts that talks about adding the security key and folllow their instructions. Go to att.com and log in then go to profile. Once you add the security key to your profile you will need to use that security key as your password on your iPhone (instead of the password you used to use and/or the one you log into att.com). When asked to paste the key to your clipboard do so. Then paste it into your password field when you add the account back to your iPhone. You can also write the password down or take a screenshot of it.

THANK YOU!! I was having the same issue for the last 2 days. I unfortunately could not locate the secure mail key through my AT&T account by the steps you provided - but previously had obtained a secure mail key that I "saved" elsewhere. When I entered it - the email seems to be working now. I do find that every update from Apple resets some feature or another and until there is an issue you have no idea!

I am having the same issue not being able to receive bellsouth email on my iphone. I no longer use Bellsouth/ATT phone service so I can't log on to their sight. How else might I address the issue to add the secured email key?
Thank you!

If you no longer have an account with AT&T they probably canceled your email account.

Thanks to Premeau and everyone else on this thread for helping me figure out why my Bellsouth email wasn't working on my iPhone. I went to my ATT account and created the Secure Mail Key (which shouldn't matter since Apple Mail is OAuth technology). I entered the secure mail key sequence into the password area of my account on my iPhone and it now works! Go figure.

Further, I have a Yahoo account that isn't letting me reset my password on my new iPhone 12 and is locking up whenever I try, Att was of no help becuse they said if I cnage my password again through them, my laptop email might not work No can do. When I follow the instructions on creating a secure mail key on myatt, I can't access either a "create a secure mail key, or "manage a secure mail key". I cannot find it anywhere. When I try support, it just keeps getting me into the same loop. I'm getting email on my laptio and my old iPhone 7, but not the new one no matter what I try. The new user name and password I set up for ATT does not work on my new iPhone.
