seagate external hard drive not mounting on MacBook Pro

I had a IMac that I purchased in 2013. I recently purchased a MacBook Pro this year. The Seagate external hard drive will not show up. It appears in the disk utility but I can not access the files. I get the following error message when it trys the mounting..

Could not mount “Seagate Backup Plus Drive”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49153.)

Can someone help me so I don't lose all the files that are on the external hard drive?

Hi,

Your MacBook Pro can't read HFS( you can read HFS+ formatted drives) formatted drives, because it's not supported since Sierra was released.

Try to connect your external drive to iMac and iMac sets as file sharing server with System Preferences > Sharing > check off File Sharing, then connect MacBook Pro to iMac via LAN connection to read external drive data.

Or with Disk Utility, "option+left click" on gray out external drive then select Create Disk Image from pull down menu to create external drive image to read data.
