change gmail address

My iphone seems to be connected to my old work gmail address for my contacts. How do I change that so I don't lose my contacts if I delete the old account?

Hey there, Dash_27!

Thanks for reaching out in Apple Support Communities! If we understand correctly, you want to remove your contacts from your Gmail account. We'd like to see how we can help!

Are you currently using iCloud with your iPhone for contacts? To check, go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Contacts. If contacts are not enabled, go ahead and do this next. If provided with the option to merge, you can tap to merge your contacts with iCloud.

You can also change the default account where your contacts will be synced. Go to Settings > Contacts > Default Account.

Feel free to post an update for continued support.

All the best.

Thanks for the reply, Dash_27!

To clarify, were you able to remove this account from your device? If you go to Settings > Contacts > Accounts, does it appear in this list? If so, can you tap to remove it?

If you're unable to remove it, we recommend reaching out to Gmail or your previous employer so they can assist with your account and password.

You can also use the Accounts list to determine which accounts are set to sync with your contacts.

Should this persist or you have trouble with removing or syncing accounts, Contact Apple Support.

Take care.
