No Ethernet option on MacBook Pro?

SOLVED: I had an issue whereby there was no Ethernet option in 'Network Preferences'.

These steps fixed it for me:

  1. Go to Network Preferences and hit the dropdown next to 'Location' at the very top.
  2. Select 'Edit Locations'
  3. Tap the '+' button and add a new one. Call it, say, 'Ethernet'.
  4. In the lower-left of the Network Preferences screen tap the dropdown arrow beside the '+' and '-' buttons.
  5. Choose 'Set Service Order'
  6. Drag the 'USB 10/100/1000 LAN' connection to the top.
  7. With your ethernet cable plugged in, turn WiFi off.

Once I did this, I automatically connected to the ethernet cable.

Before that, it was saying 'Cable unplugged' even though it wasn't.

You do not say what exact Mac this is.... Do you have built in Ethernet or do you need an Ethernet adapter?

Did you try a different cable?

Did you try a different port?
