Safari Version 14.0.3

Since I updated to Big Sur 11.2.3 I cannot open certain websites and receive the message that Safari can't find the Server. This is now happening across devices, iPhone 11 and iPad too. I contacted the website providers and they cannot replicate the error. I completely re-installed Big Sur OS and the problem is still there.

Is there a way I can go back to the previous version of Big Sur?

I am using MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)

Hi PB!

It may be that your DNS are changed to router's / ISP default, and sometimes that's problematic.

YOu can try going to Preferences / Networking / Advanced / DNS

and there you can set:

8.8.8.8

8.8.4.4

9.9.9.9

1.1.1.1

One of those may help, (first two are Google DNS servers, then Quad9, and then 1.1.1.1).

The change applies immediately, so you can check if it works.

Hope it helps!

As to your question, Safari, being installed as part of the operating system, normally it cannot be individually upgraded. it is periodically updated when the computer's operating system is updated or upgraded. This is not an unusual complaint. Web site engineers write their software to work with specific browsers and specific versions of them. For some reason, they often choose to not be compliant with Safari. This is not an Apple problem as Apple has no control over the millions of web sites on the internet. You can hope that your web site's developers eventually update their site to work with Safari, or you can use another browser that does work, such as Firefox or Chrome.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, I am now using another browser but it's a disturbing thought that I had to spend so many hours to get to understand the root cause of the technical problem and that Apple upgrades are not running smoothly. Next time Apple sends an upgrade, I will think twice and wait quite sometime before I run it.

I used to buy Apple because it performed easily and smoothly. More and more it seems this is not the case anymore. In comparison to price and quality, my next laptop will probably not be an Apple.
