Macbook asked for name and password and don’t accept my information

Wait, no user accounts appear?

Follow these steps to create a new administrator account that you can use to (hopefully) recover your data:

1. Restart your Mac while holding down Command-S. Release the keys when white lines of text appear on a black screen.
2. When the text stops moving, enter these commands in order, as shown, very carefully. They force your Mac to re-run the Setup Assistant:
   1. mount -uw /
   2. rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone
   3. launchctl reboot
3. Your Mac should immediately restart after the last command. You should now see Setup Assistant appear.
4. When asked to migrate data, choose not to. You can then create a new user account. Be sure to use a distinct username - one that you haven't used before.
5. When finished, you should arrive at the desktop screen.
6. Open Finder, and press Command-Shift-G. Type the following and hit Enter: /Users
7. How many folders appear? Do any of them have a name that matches your normal user account?

The only way to reset your login password and name is to boot up from the recovery partition. You can do this by restarting and holding down the Apple and R keys together. Once that is done, move the cursor to the top centre of your screen and click. You should see OS X tools. From there, go to Terminal. Type in “resetpassword” without the quote marks and press Return/Enter on your keyboard. That will get you into the main/login/administrator password reset application
