Unfixable permissions issues

I can't launch Firefox on my M1 MacBook Air.

It says Profile couldn’t be created. Probably the chosen folder isn’t writable. The folder in question has a random name inside /Users/gisborne/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles.

I've recursively set permissions on everything inside Profiles from the Finder. Didn't make a difference.

I also fairly often run into similar permissions problems in other apps. Those I can fix by manually setting the permissions in question, although quite often those permissions were fine the day before.

Hi there gisborne,

Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. It sounds like you are having some issues with your permissions on your Mac. Is this an admin user, or is it a guest or other type of user account? Does it seem like you have repeat issues with specific apps, or does it happen on all apps? Do you still have an issue with Firefox if you uninstall and reinstall it?

Try starting your Mac in safe mode and then starting normally. See how here: Start up your Mac in safe mode.

We hope this helps!
