Photos app on MacBook Pro (11.2.3) is not syncing with ICloud. SYNC PHOTOS in iCloud System Preferences is selected. Happened after update!!! What to do???

Realized my Photos App library was empty after updating to BIG SUR (11.2.3)! The Photos app is selected in the iCloud preferences, and I never unselected it from this computer. Photos App has been open for 3 days now and still won't sync to the iCloud which costs 10$ a month.

Any advice would be much appreciated!

It is not uncommon for the iCloud sync to occasionally get stuck.

Within preferences/iCloud try toggling photos on and off. Similarly switch iCloud photos on and off within Photos app. If that doesn't work try logging out of iCloud altogether, rebooting the Mac and logging back in. Normally a combination of these is enough to trigger the sync process.

Alternatively, hold down the alt key as you click on Photos icon. Then create a new library and in preferences make this the system library and enable iCloud.
