migration tool

My MacBook Pro suffered a major problem two weeks ago and when Apple repaired it I needed to migrate my files back from my time machine backup.

I did this and it took over three hours.

On checking my files there were a huge amount of gaps - is this usual? Also, the Apps that I had originally were not transferred - maybe this was to be expected!

I copied the missing files and Apps manually and all is well - I hope!!

All was not well! It was not anything to do with the migration utility. In fact my MacBook Pro has a further fault with its SMC, (system management controller) which resulted in periodic shutdowns. I didn’t notice that it shutdown in the middle of my migration, I just assumed it had finished!

The machine is being repaired for a second time.

Surely the original repair people should have checked the SMC after they replaced the motherboard?

I have been a big fan of Apple devices but this has left me doubting my choices.
