Intercom will not receive on iPhone/iOS devices (can send from any device)

Sending intercom from any iOS device (with Siri or button in Home app) to Homepods works fine...

BUT,

”Hey Siri reply” or, “Intercom LeRiver’s iPhoneXR” makes the notification sound as if sending the message back to iOS device,

—> but NONE of the iOS devices/watches show a notification (nor plays the reply intercom message).


We have one Apple TV, 2 HomePods, 2 iPhones (Xr & 8+), iPad Pro 2018, 2 Apple Watches.

Updated to iOS 14.4.1 on iOS devices, Watch 7.3.2, Homepods also up to date.

Yes, location services is ON for all devices’ Home apps,

Home settings, Intercom>Receive notifications>Anywhere selected, & ALL people in Home selected to send/receive.


Anyone else having issues? I have rebooted all devices to no avail.

To help narrow things down a bit more, we'd like to ask a few additional questions.


  1. Are all devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network currently?
  2. When you restarted the HomePod, did that correct the issue temporarily, or was there no change? Please check out the "Restart HomePod" part of this page for those steps: If HomePod isn't responding
  3. When this issue happens, do you ever see an error message, or alert in the Home app? The "Check for alerts in the Home app" part of the above link explains how to check that.

It sounds like you aren't able to reply to Intercom messages, is that right? We want to help.


"After your HomePod or device receives an Intercom message, you can reply back. If the message was shared with the whole Home, your reply is sent back to every HomePod and device in your Home with notifications turned on. If the message was sent to your specific room, your reply is sent only to the HomePod or device that sent the original message."

Thank you for trying to help Brittany,


My mistake if my inquiry wasn’t clear. I understand what you said above but that is not the issue.

The problem is that replying from Homepod to any other device with notifications turned on (i.e. iPhones, Apple Watches, iPad) no notifications appear on these devices, nor does the intercom message play. Do you see what I mean?

All the devices have intercom notifications on, we have toggled this on and off and restarted the devices, location services for the home app are turned on.

Can you help?

  1. Yes all devices are connected to the same WiFi network, connected to the same home in the home app.
  2. When restarting the Homepods, nothing happens. We have never received intercom messages on any of our iPhones, Apple watches, or the iPad. Also note, that when sending the intercom message to the devices, (i.e. ”Hey Siri reply” or, “Intercom LeRiver’s iPhoneXR”) makes the notification sound as if sending the message back to iOS device, but NONE of the iOS devices/watches show a notification (nor plays the reply intercom message).
  3. There are no error messages, no notifications, or alerts.
