Reinstalling MacOS

When trying to reinstall MacOS there is no disk to download it on to.

Any Errors with Internal Disk:

Looks like you've selected the external disk - not the internal disk. So, what happens when you select the internal disk - do you still get this error?

Hi maisie277,


Follow these steps to erase your Mac and reinstall macOS:


  1. From the screenshot you posted, select APPLE SSD and click Erase. Choose these options, then click Erase:
    1. Name: Macintosh HD
    2. Format: Use the format pre-selected by Disk Utility. This should either be Mac OS Extended (Journaled) or APFS.
    3. Scheme: GUID Partition Table/Map
  2. When finished, quit Disk Utility and reinstall macOS.
