you saved my life!!! I was having the exact same problems with my wifi and ev 4g working on certain apps and not working on others and tried everything. Contacted my network provider and contacted Apple and nothing they told me to do helped. Then I saw your post and it worked! My Norton app had been removed so the vpn was bugging out.

After 8 days of angst, going to my Verizon store, trying every fix known, I found this chat room. Though my VPN was off, I found I had an inactive VPN lurking in my settings. Once deleted, every app worked like a charm!

Add-on VPN client apps are poorly-written and insecure and privacy-sucking trash, unless and until proven otherwise.

*this refers to those VPN apps claiming to “protect” the first few hops of a network connection while centralizing that traffic for easy content mining, and not those VPN client apps intended to connect into the internal network of an organization that the VPN user is affiliated with.

How did you find the app that had the lurking VPN in the background? My son's VPN in settings is off too and we don't know which app is causing the issue.

Add-on VPN apps and add-on security apps (the latter tend to use use the same interfaces and mechanisms as the add-on VPNs) have to be installed. The add-on VPN apps are usually named with some variation of VPN.

I’ve been having this problem on and off, the only 2 things that I found out that temporarily fixes it that day is to open settings and to the WiFi on your phone. Click it then back out and close settings and go back to the app.

the other way is to open the app for your WiFi and and click the connection check and do the test ( tells you the upload and download) close the app and return to your problem app.

Kindly read and follow the replies.

If you’ve installed an add-on VPN client or add-on “security” app, remove it, restart, and try again.

If that doesn’t work, details on what you’ve tried and what then happened might help speed an answer.

I had the same problem and do not have a VPN on my iPhone. Please check the specific apps using Settings as I had disabled cellular data for certain apps (somewhere I had read that saves battery life when seldom used apps are constantly refreshed) and, the very one I was having a problem with had cellular data turned off. I rarely use WIFI. Sure enough when I found the app in settings with the problem and looked at it, Cellular Data was turned off. I turned Cellular Data on and the app works just as it should.

I’m having the very same problem. App installed March 23, 2022 and worked fine for 3 months; it now says no internet connection. I’ve restarted phone several times and I deleted and reinstalled app several times. I have no problems with other apps and am connected to the internet. My iPhone 11 Pro Max is updated to most current software iOS 15.5. I need help.

Remove any add-on commercial VPN client app, and reset network settings, and try again.

I did this as well but nothing changed. The same apps that didn’t work before still don’t work. I tried every suggestion I saw but nothing is working.

As you’ve already “tried every suggestion”, there is seemingly nothing further left to offer here, and you’ll want to discuss this directly with Apple Support. Use the Get Support link in the upper right of this webpage.

Actually in addition to some apps (including twitter) that are not connected to the internet via WIFI, the settings-> software update cannot connect to the internet via WIFI as well.

but they can connect to the internet via cellular

I did the following suggested actions with no luck

1- turn off and turn on the device

2- remove all VPN settings

3- turn off settings->cellular -> WIFI assist

4- settings->general -> transfer or reset iphone -> reset network settings

5- turn on settings->general-> data and time -> set automatically

Some apps say no internet connection
