Some apps say no internet connection

I’m so happy I came across this post and your answer‼️ After 2 days of sheer frustration with the same problem, I saw this post and after deleting my free VPN, immediately all my apps were once again working fine‼️🙃

Oh my goodness thank you so much, two weeks I have been trying to sort this I have been into Vodafone twice and phoned their helpline and they couldn’t sort it I wasn’t connected to a vpn but like you said it was lurking in my settings I’m very happy 😁

Hi. Turning the vpn off is an ok workaround, but unless these apps are geo-restricted in some way, why, exactly, are these apps not working?

my Amazon app on iOS 16.1 says “no internet” when I try to check my orders. This was not a problem for me until 16.1, which fixed some things but apparently broke others; the app is still the same, the vpn and server are the same - but 16.1 installed and now I have to disable vpn to connect to the Amazon app. I use a paid vpn for security and to protect transactions, not to access shows from different countries. This should not affect the shopping app. So. Did 16.1 mess up the DNS settings or something else. Because the iOS upgrade is the only variable that has changed.

I just encountered the exact same issue on a 2018 iPad Pro with iPad OS 16. The culprit proved to be Ivacy VPN app - which is rather confusing as I had the app installed for years without issue.

At least I didn’t have to remove OpenVPN - and before people here get upset I’m using it to connect to my office and home local networks from the internet, so for its intended purpose.

The same thing happened to me. I drove 40 miles to the nearest Apple Store, and the staff fixed it in about 30 seconds. I have a third-party VPN on my 13, and the genius bar member told me the phone already has a VPN, and sometimes the software conflicts.

I think it’s disgraceful that the last six months all the apps or at least many of them will not work without an Internet connection. I travel a lot and then I don’t have Internet and my Google Maps, which I need doesn’t work and neither does anything else if this persists, then this is the last iPhone I will buy.

Google Maps downloads maps as you need them. If you don’t have an Internet connection it can’t download them. You can get navigation apps that store their entire database on the phone. That’s what you need.

And most apps are internet gateways, not standalone apps.

This was same for me. Did all the closing down the few apps that weren’t working (e.g.News Feed; WhatsApp;) updating OS; shut off the VPN without luck. As soon as I deleted the Norton VPN all the apps worked. I had to delete the VPN, not just disconnect.

I tried all the various suggestions

1) deleted vpn

2) reset network settings

3) automatic date

etc

and the obvious turn on / off flight mode, turned off / on device …

in the end it was just that on Mobile Data the apps with the problem were not enabled.

my conclusion- if you are having the issue on WiFi, check the VPN. If on cellular m, check Mobile Data to see if your app is turned on.

I'm having this exact problem: Amazon app, Youtube app, and Netflix app are working fine, but Reddit, Snapchat, eBay, and others are not. I do not have a VPN installed (when I go to the "VPN&Device management" tab in general settings and click on "VPN", there is nothing there). I've tried restarting, I've tried resetting the network settings. Nothing is working. I had a similar problem on my mac, and I had to delete Network configuration documents to get it to allow me to access websites again (it was only letting me do google searches and showing the results page). I have an iPhone 13, and I just finished setting up all my stuff on there (it's new to me, factory refurbished).

Any ideas? Is this an issue with my wi-fi? The apps do work when I'm only connected to cellular data.

Tried all the things people have mentioned in the posts.. VPN disconnect/removal looks to fix most of the problems

but I recently changed network provider and have two SIM cards. 1 with a number awaiting transfer in a week and my current number.

Tried the new Sim everything worked except Golf Battle 'no internet connection', put my current Sim back in, all worked?

Did the same again, exactly the same glitch.

I've removed my VPN and order a new sim, hoping this fixes it????

Who knew. Even without the VPN app fully downloaded it caused this network connection issue AND it prevented me from downloading certain other apps. Not only that it stopped my ability to live stream my outdoor Blink camera system which their support staff could not figure out. Fully deleted app and now everything is good.

Oh my goodness I could just kiss you! I’ve had so many apps not working for months! Hours spent on the phone with apple, with T-Mobile, in the Apple Store, in the Tmobile store- I had just given up and accepted that I can’t use these apps anymore! My VPN was switched to off, so I figured that couldn’t be the problem. When I typed VPN into my settings search engine, I found one hidden in one of my apps smh. My phone is finally working again! Thank you!!!!!!!!!

My iPad3 Lite is connected to my Wi-Fi however some apps say check your Wi-Fi connection (I.e.messenger, PUBG)and they are not working . My internet connection on my iPhone, Mac and other devices works fine. I’ve tried switching between 5g and 4 with no improvement

I had the same problem, some apps worked others said I wasn't connected to the internet, none of my email adresses worked, etc... But after a week of searching for answers I found out that I had an old VPN I'd forgotten about that looked like it was bugging (the on/off switch in the VPN settings was twitching) so i deleted the VPN and now my mac runs perfectly!
