I am trying to restore some files from a TM backup.
When I try to restore an application I get:
“” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by macOS.
(The quotation marks are part of the message.)
How can I fix this? There is no version of the application on my system now.

Ctrl-click on the item and choose Restore <file> to…

Try restoring to a different location in your home folder. If that is successful, try moving it to Applications.
What is the application? Where are you trying to restore to? Did it get moved from its original location at some point? Did you delete it, if so did you empty the trash?
Have you rebooted into Safe Mode, and then restarted normally?

I spent hours looking through the Apple support site, and on the phone, and in chat with Apple, and no one could tell me that. Just amazing, and pathetic.
Thank you, but it doesn't seem to actually give me a choice as to where to restore it.
Am I missing something?
