MacBook Air M1 randomly shutting down

I have had my MacBook Air with M1 chip almost a week now and I was sitting here reading a webpage when the MacBook just shut off randomly and rebooted. It is operating off of AC power right now. I have a USB C hub plugged in that powers my mouse and ethernet and sometimes an external display. I only have plugged in what I am using at the time. This concerns me because this MacBook Air is replacing a 2010 MacBook Pro that was doing the same thing.

+ 1 on this method!

I had exactly the same issue like others here: Macbook M1 unexpected restarts with pink screen, and the crash report says CPU panic etc. Contacted Apple support since the first month I after purchased and tried a few things they recommended such as Safe Mode, re install Mac OS, run Diagnostic but these did not help. The Authorised Apple repair shop said it was the faulty of Main Logic board.

I had my MacBook replaced but the issue continues within a week of using the new model. The Apple supervisor recon that there was some data I had transfer ( using Migration assistant ) from my 2016 Macbook Pro to my M1 Macbook that the data might not support the new operating system. She recommended me to erase my laptop and manually reinstall the softwares fresh with the current apps and programs that I need.

This is my 2nd week of no crashing, no restarting and hopefully it stays that way.

This sudden shut down on MacBook Air M1 just happened to me again.. probably happened 5 times now in the past three months but today all of a sudden on a zoom call with nothing attached to my laptop at all.. This is very frustrating and worrying, just makes very scared that the laptop will crash completely soon. I wonder if this is just a macbook air issue or macbook in general ?

Yep, it happened to me a lot with external monitors attached and one without anything attached. I am also scared that this happens during conferences or something important. I put everything one OneDrive now like Microsoft Office so that everything is immediately saved in case it does crash again. No one from Apple here is actually reading this here I guess?

My only hope is that since so many people deal with this issue (MacBook Air or Pro), it might only be the M1 macbooks and that it can be fixed with an update .. whenever that will happen.

It is seriously terrible customer service. People were telling me here before that I dont need to buy Apple products if I am that unhappy with it. Well, I was not. My old MacBook did not crash once in years. But obviously I am complaining when this happens with the new one and I even got a different one with which it also happens.

Same issue here. Nothing connected, battery at 65%, was editing some text in Notes when it happened. Was interrupted by a sudden black screen with a pink pixellated blob over in the lower right, then it shut down and rebooted, without any warning. Also logged me out of iCloud, apparently. This machine was purchased just 3 months ago. 16gb/1tb config. Light use only, so far.

I ran into the same issue multiple times since I bough my MacBook Pro with M1 chip. I have tried all possible solution including updating the system, open safe mode, and reinstall macOS system. Apple store repaired my laptop twice and replaced the logic board. I replaced my old adapter to a new one sold by Apple. However, the same problem still occurred. If the problem was caused by the external display, I am wondering if we need to use specific types of external display?

I bought my son a macbook Air M1 in the first month they were released. It always is shutting down on him randomly. He connects no 3rd party devices, no usb or other to his air. Has this problem any solution? I see several hundred people have the same problem. Also his camera works only intermittently. Thanks for any help.

Hey, thanks for that. I just looked at my settings, and the display was already set up to turn off after 10 minutes. The screen saver was set to show after 20 minutes - and the warning was there.

I changed it to 10, although I'm not hopeful it'll make a difference.

This seems like a software malfunction, to be honest. It just shouldn't be happening.

I bought a MacBook air m1 about a year ago. I am facing similar issues on my mac. Within a week my system shut down a couple of times without any warnings and by showing a pink screen . Please help me solve this issue before my warranty expires. I don't connect any external devices (I do connect earphone sometimes) . I wasn't charging during this incident. I believe apple customer service will provide the necessary help quickly and efficiently.
