Airpods Pro: Am I using them wrong or did apples design team design a 250 dollar terrible headphones?

I have had two Airpod pairs and two Airpod Pro pairs (yes Pairs meaning two sets of two headphone). Both these models have had issues connecting to an iphone 8 plus, an iphone 12 pro, and a macbook air 2018. I have tried using them in different ways too. For some reason when I first attempt to switch my audio on my phone from speakers to airpods they hang for about 2 minutes spinning with no audio and stop trying. I have to leave them sitting comfortably in the case and wait until their little tantrum is finished before trying again with a 50 50 shot at getting them to connect properly. Is there a solid fix for this issue? Please @apple tell me how to fix your headphones. Ask me other questions too if you have any ideas on how to fix it.
