IPhone 12 Pro Max screen dimming issue.
My iPhone 12 Pro Max screen dims randomly after disabling the auto dim feature. My iPhone 6S does not have this random dimming issue. Is apple issuing a fix soon in the next iOs update?

This has been a highly frustrating issue. I have gone through most if not all settings... toggled of true tone and auto brightness. Nothing as you've experienced. Here is what I did to lessen the frequency of the phone auto dimming. 1st...I went to settings >accessibility>FaceID and Attention> toggle off Attention aware features. With this feature in it causes the phone to auto dim if you are not paying attention to the phone. 2nd I went to settings> display and brightness > Auto Lock > change setting to never. However, change the time to whatever suits you best. This seem to lessen frequently dimming issue. Happy troubleshooting
keep in mind also, that the more damage that gets done to your device over time, the more likely that this is going to continue recurring more frequently, as the device is trying to ensure the longevity of your phone for as long as possible. If you check the battery health is the battery tab under settings, i’m curious as to what your maximum battery percentage is at. If its below 100%, or below 95%, I am sure the reason your phone keeps auto dimming is because you are actively damaging the phones battery unintentionally by doing one of the above reasons I have stated in my previous comment. Apple is not responsible for the damage you are causing to your battery. You need to take care of your device if you want to maximize the health and longevity of it, and I assume to also fix this issue you’re having. Best of luck!
They said bring it in next Saturday. It's definitely the phone.
I have a brand new iPhone 12 promax. I have the true temp tone whatever it is turned off and I have brightness set to maximum. My battery is fully charged. Despite all this, my phone randomly goes dim. It dimmed just now when I was playing a game and then when I started typing this it brightened up and it has just gone dim and bright again as I dictate this. I can see no rational explanation… Oh my goodness it has brightened up three times just as I’m writing this. What is going on?
This is not the issue. Max battery life, True Tone and auto brightness is off but yet my brand new iPhone 12 Pro Max dims all by itself for no reason! I find it ridiculous I paid this much for a phone and it not only dims by itself but doesn’t come with a brick.
That's not true.
Your iPhone comes with a warranty too.
If you take your car into your dealership and say "the radio shuts itself off every so often" and they can't reproduce it, they'll return it to you with the service order marked "cannot reproduce." They're not going to just replace it because you complained it did it once or every so often.
If you don't believe me, do an Internet search on the subject; virtually any auto fan site has hundreds of discussion threads devoted to intermittent issues that people have taken their cars in for service for only to have the dealer return it saying "didn't see it happen."
If my phone dimmed, I would try to figure out the precise set of circumstances around when and how it did, and either reproduce it for the service staff in-store or give them precise instructions as to how to do it.
Ditto! This has been a problem for a couple of years. During that time I've upgraded my phone at least twice and have been up to date on all IOS updates. Heat and all those other suggestions are not applicable. I can be sitting in one spot reading through articles and accessing various apps and the dimming comes and goes. What's frustrating is the bot replies coming from Apple on this (and similar) threads where they don't acknowledge the problem but just pay lip service with the typical "we feel your pain" response but no solution!
Mine does that too, but usually when the phone gets hot and in bright sunlight. Maybe it has something to do with the OLED display which may not be happy when hot.
And when you screen record it doesn’t show either does it?
I am planning to do some multitrack audio recording on iPhone 12 Pro Max.
I would like to use the cubasis app that records at 24BIT 96khz or at 192KHZ sampling rates, using an external USB interface.
I ‘ve recorded in garage band already on iPhone, but for this new situation, I need to be able to find out if iPhone 12 Pro Max supports recording at these higher sampling rates, with the AD conversion being handled by the external Mackie USB interface.
I understand I have to use a USB to lightning adapter.
NEUMANN has a video showcasing this setup, but they don’t mention specifically, if iPhone can record at sampling rates higher than 44.1KHZ..
My guess is, yes, if all it has to do is record, and not do the AD conversion, which is handled by the external interface, in the same way my MacBook pro does.
Looking forward to your help!
Thanks!
Same here. The 12 pro max is a lemon. Worst phone ever. Just about every single family member we have has a 12 pro max. We all have the same issues with this phone. Plenty of coworkers bringing up the same issues. Lots of cheap components made this phone. Very poor quality of a phone.
It has nothing to do with heat on mine. I can be sitting in my air conditioned car when it's 80 outside and 68 in the car.
Watching a video or streaming the Fidelity app does it almost every time. It's ridiculous.
Why does my IPhone Pro Mac 12 constantly dim for no reason? Literally watched it dim as soon as I went outside. It does it every time. I’ve tried all the recommendations. It’s not hot. I literally can’t use the phone outside. Worst phone and obviously this phone isn’t cheap. I use this for my job and aM out at golf course for my job and this is becoming extremely frustrating. Can Apple please do something to correct this issue? It’s apparent it’s been one since it’s release.
I literally walked out of my air conditioned house and it’s 80 degrees here. But the phone was just taken outside and as soon as I unlocked it the screen came up normal then dimmed within 2 seconds. It does it every time.
Hi, have apple acknowledged this problem yet? I can’t see ANYTHING on my screen when I’m in the sun. Showed your store staff the issue.. 1 store told me it’s a problem. Another refused to help, then after speaking to Apple care, told me my phone was showing overheating warnings. It wasn’t.. took it back to apple, they sent it off for a week and told me nothing is wrong, gave it back.
Going around in circles since March now.
I’m talking literally taking my phone out of my pocket after being outside for 5 minutes can cause it.
Happened last night whilst sat inside. Whilst driving yesterday etc. It’s more obvious on dark mode.
