IPhone 12 Pro Max screen dimming issue.
My iPhone 12 Pro Max screen dims randomly after disabling the auto dim feature. My iPhone 6S does not have this random dimming issue. Is apple issuing a fix soon in the next iOs update?

This has been a highly frustrating issue. I have gone through most if not all settings... toggled of true tone and auto brightness. Nothing as you've experienced. Here is what I did to lessen the frequency of the phone auto dimming. 1st...I went to settings >accessibility>FaceID and Attention> toggle off Attention aware features. With this feature in it causes the phone to auto dim if you are not paying attention to the phone. 2nd I went to settings> display and brightness > Auto Lock > change setting to never. However, change the time to whatever suits you best. This seem to lessen frequently dimming issue. Happy troubleshooting
Have you ever taken a car in for service at a dealership?
If they can’t reproduce an issue, they will run diagnostics and if nothing is logged, they will give it back to you at the end of the day and the invoice will be marked “cannot reproduce.“
It happens all the time.
You're just defending the company at all costs. You don't have the problem so it's not a problem.
Cars come with 3/36 bumper to bumper warranties. If your brand new radio breaks they replace it.

Please man, stop it. This is a serious problem that is happening right now as I type and I’m sitting in a lamp lit bedroom at 22:38pm.
I haven’t used my phone until 5 mins ago… no apps open etc. The overheating argument is dead.
Also, yes we have warranty but apple refused to replace my phone because they can’t replicate the issue there and then.
Would a car dealer treat you the same? Probably not.
Yes - in fact auto dealers are very well known for doing exactly that.
Before making these assertions, make even a simple Internet search; here's a newspaper piece from the Hartford Courant:
What To Do When Car Dealer Can't Duplicate/Diagnose Problem
I use my 12 Pro Max all day, every day inside and out and have never seen this issue.
I've never seen it on a demo device in an Apple Store.
This indicates that it requires specific circumstances that can't easily be reproduced.
So the quite obvious next step would be to give the customer a new phone. Then if the problem persists we have a conclusion. If the problem goes away we also have a conclusion.
If it's very uncommon it's a relatively simple fix. Instead the customer is left holding the bag..
If you can't see the ridiculousness of this, I can't help you.
If the phone won't screen grab it happening and I can't make it happen, is it still up to me to prove it's happening? Me saying it's happening isn't enough? Should a customer be required to camp out at the Apple store until it happens so they can show a tech? This seems very strange.
My apologies, I didn’t mean to imply that anyone actually thought we were imagining things but simply to give relatable comfort to those pulling their hair out trying to reproduce this issue sometimes with mixed results.
I agree with your speculation of what could be occurring with my phone.
Thank you for your comments and thoughts on this matter.
Take care.
Thx!
I noticed that with the newly installed iOS 15 that it seems to try to dim but it only goes down one level now which is an acceptable fix to me but I have a feeling the processor is simply unable to keep everything proper on the phone.
Verizon was willing to give me $1000 trade in, I’ve since upgraded to iPhone 13 Pro Max and we’ll see how this new one does. Thx!!
Yeah, it is completely annoying. It may not necessarily be because you are paying attention to the phone. It just the setting that needs to be turned off. As I mentioned the suggestions may not completely resolve all issues, however, it may lessen the frequency of the auto-dim. Try it out and let me know!
The IPhone keeps dimming for no reason. All settings that you recommended has been turned off and it still dims. Looks like it’s time to go back to Samsung bc they don’t have this problem. As much as this iPhone cost, it shouldn’t have the problems it has and it isn’t just mine, everyone I know with the iPhone 12 Pro Max has the same issue. Do better apple bc I’m going back to the reliable Samsung. Maybe Apple should take notes from Samsung
After spending 35 years as a 3rd level technical support specialist for companies like DuPont, IBM, CSC I am well aware that it is exceedingly difficult to resolve a problem which is inconsistent and can’t be replicated on demand. That doesn’t mean the problem doesn’t exist and it doesn’t mean the company that produced the product can absolve themselves of the responsibility to find and fix the problem. I’m certain Apple has enough iPhone 12s on hand to be able to work with to replicate and diagnose the problem so please do stop using this as an excuse for every single post regarding this issue.
Thank you!
I will give it a try.
Ney-Mello,
You're very welcome. Anytime.
Have a great rest of your day!
I have also tried it with every other app closed. My phone still dims and it also gets quite hot
Mine is doing it and it’s 45 degrees out. Frustrating as it triggers migraines for me when it’s co tangly flickering between bright and dim. :(
