My pc isnt recognizing my iphone 8plus

I am trying to add some music to my iPhone 8plus. iTunes does not see my iphone, my Dell PC sees it (but only in the device manager) it says "Driver error" in the device manager and it is not found in the task bar icons in the lower right. I tried to update the driver but Windows says it is updated to the latest version. However the driver date says 2006! I just want to put a couple of playlists on my phone for when I am outdoors and not use cell data! It may be noteworthy this iphone 8 plus was my daughter's and she gave it to me when she upgraded to the 12.
