Junk mail - data breach!

Several months ago my phone number was 'stolen' along with it various information and data.

As part of this it appears that my data or at least my details have been sold on to a third party.

I'm constantly receiving emails from mail@eu.admailers.net and material like the attached screen grab.

At the bottom of the email (see attached) it lists the parties this email is being sent from and a link to 'opt' out but it appears that all address's and supposed companies appear dodgy or bogus. The UK business is a small Ltd company with virtually no details and the company/address in Spain doesn't even appear to exist - and if it does - it's in a residentual area?

I'd like to rid myself of these emails but I'm highly reticent to click on any of the links provided.

I can obviously ignore these but they're pretty constant and blocking the sender doesn't really seem to work! Can anybody provide advice as to what may be a solution?

"thanks loads for the advice TheLittles...[...]It's now only one particular mailing list or service that seems to have my email address that keeps sending me what looks like advertising material and registered to what appears to be a bogus address - I'm just reticent to click on the links provided to unsubscribe as it feels bogus and was wondering if there was any way to do so without the possibility of compromising anything!"

You are welcome.

Thank you for the updates.

Three Thoughts:

A. Avoid Unsubscribe Link:

Don't click the unsubscribe link. It make run you in to more issues.

B. Filter it Out:

Just block it out by use of certain specifications:

  • keywords of the title
  • eMail address domain
  • keywords in the message

and...

C. Remove from Safe List:

If the eMail address is in your Safe List, then remove it from your Safe List.

What to Consider:

I. Open and Use a New eMail:

So, open a new eMail address, first exporting all of your contacts and from it. Once all is exported, import the it to the new eMail address. Then, close this current eMail account. Use a different eMail provider (i.e. instead of gmail, using AOL). You'd most certainly want to modify the sites that you have associated with your current eMail account. Ask the eMail provider how to export this.

II. As for Privacy:

A. Clear the Temporary Internet Files:

Clear your Temporary Internet Files (Cookies & Cache) of Safari:

  • Cookies perform remembrance of certain site-entered data.
  • Cache keeps a snapshot of the last time you visited a site.

Go Here: Clear the History and Cookies from Safari on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch - Apple Support

B. Malwarebytes Mobile Security:

You might want to consider using the paid version of Malwarebytes Mobile Secuityon your iPhone. Read the following post to see how to use this software: Blocked numbers - Apple Community

C. Modify your Credentials:

If you suspect activity issues, then modify the you credentials:

Other Thoughts:

On your Mac...

I. Remove Login items:

See if Safari and/or Chrome are Login Items. If so, remove them as such and then restart the Mac, seeing if it/they no longer load(s) at login.  Go Here: Change Users & Groups Login Items preferences on Mac - Apple Support.

II. Uninstall Security Software:

Any Security Software installed on your computer? If so, uninstall it. Use the Uninstaller for to do so, getting the Uninstaller directly from my Developer’s site, as getting it else where may result in Malware or Spyware being installed. If you are uncertain which to download, then as the Developer. What is it doing is running you through VPN (Virtual Private Network), and your location is seen elsewhere — perhaps a location that this site is inaccessible to.

III.. Then, Scan your Mac for Malware:

Use MalwareBytes for Mac --- This is software that searches for malware/adware. So, scan with it and then remove what is found. Once removed, uninstall MalwareBytes for Mac. Then restart the Mac.

Downloads:

  1. Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for Mac
  2. Malwarebytes Uninstaller

Apologies for my tardiness in response and thanks loads for the advice TheLittles... I've already dealt with the major security issues associated with the 'theft'.
