Notification stop working after network settings reset

Has anyone experience an issue when after resetting network settings that the notification on certain apps are not working properly. For example this issue is happening to me with the IG app. When the app is actively running notifications work, however when it is running in the background push notifications are not working. As soon as I go into the app and there is a notification and I exit out it will display the notification radio button on the app that there is an unread message in the app.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled the IG app several times and each time it would pop up asking if I want to have notifications enabled and allow is selected however it is not fully working. The phone is updated to the latest iOS and app version. Any insight or ideas are greatly welcome.

Hello there EMRoble,

We see that you're not getting notifications for certain apps. Let's take a closer look as we do our best to provide some additional insight.

To get started, have you noticed this with any other apps other than this one? If so, have you had a chance to try the same troubleshooting steps with any of those apps at all? Have you already checked the Settings > Notifications section, or checked if that app has any notifications settings built-in to the app itself? Also, these steps can help get you started in the meantime:

1. Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

2. Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

3. To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

4. Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed.

5. If you still need help, you can use these steps to locate the contact info for the App Developer: How to contact an app developer

If you still notice this happens with multiple apps or Apple apps, you may need to contact Apple Support instead.

We hope this helps!

Take care.

Hello EMRobles,

You're very welcome, we're glad we can help! If you want to make sure you also remove Instagram saved data in iCloud, go to Settings > {Your Name] at the top > iCloud > Manage Storage. Do you see Instagram as an option there?

If not, go back to Settings > General > iPhone Storage > Instagram > Delete App. Those steps can help confirm the app data is completely deleted without anything left in iCloud or elsewhere on your iPhone.

These steps can help you get in contact with the app developer if you still need help: How to contact an app developer

We hope you the best of luck!

Take care.

Hello Chuck_3rd,

I just went through the steps that you told me and I am still not getting the notifications when the app is running in the background. I can upload screen shots and you can see by the time stamp that the app was removed and the notification settings were removed and then re-added when it was reinstalled. I am still seeing the installer for the app is being pulled from the cloud and not as a new install file/request. I have attached a pic of what I am referring to.

Hello I_Rina,

So far I have only encounter this issue with the Instagram app, I have done all (except step 5) with my iPhone. And the result is still the same. I do have one question when I delete and then go to re-install the application it seems to pull it down from my cloud account. It does not show it as a new download. Is there anyway to have it download a fresh installer than from the cloud? In the meantime I will contact the app developers to get them started on their end however I am running their latest release and this issue is only known on my device. I have talked with colleagues and friends if they are running the same iOS and app release version and they are not experiencing the issue I am having. I did have to reset the network settings to get a workout app to get recognized with the GPS function of the device.

Thank you
