Is there a danger using HP utilities to
set up an HP 3830 printer to scan to my MacBook Pro?
FWIW, I opted not to install any additional HP utilities on my 2018 Mac mini, except the basic driver for my AIO HP printer/scanner. Without any other utilities, I found you can easily run scans by just going to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners. Then select the HP. From there, two tabs appear; one for Print and the other, for Scan. I just selected the Scan tab, and I found that I can successfully use the printer's scanner from there.
