Mac Mail inbox only displays current month.

I have a new iMac with Catalina (mail 13.4). I have an email account which was POP on my old Mac that I have had to set up as IMAP on the new one. Trouble is on the new Mac, I can only see messages for the current month. I've resent some old messages again from the old Mac to the new one, so they should be stored on the server, and indeed they appeared last month (March 2021) but now we are in April they no longer appear. How can I get the inbox to display all the messages on the server. My other email accounts are fine (but they were set up as IMAP on the old Mac).

Thanks in advance.

David

Hi there Dave Does Lists,

Thanks for joining us in Apple Support Communities! We understand you're unable to see emails from before the current month in Mail on your Mac for a specific email account. We're glad you're here, and we can provide some guidance.

To start, you'll want to go to Mail > Preferences, then click the Account tab to check your server settings. Learn more from the links below:

View email account information in Mail on Mac

Change preferences in Mail on Mac

Change Server Settings in Mail on Mac

With that said, are you able to see previous emails when checking via webmail in a browser, instead of the Mail app? Have a look at this link:

If emails appear to be missing in Mail on Mac

Let us know what you find, and we'll take a closer look.

Cheers.

Dave,

You're certainly welcome. We're happy to point you in the right direction from here to learn how to save emails or copy them. Have a look at the links below:

Archive emails in Mail on Mac

Move or copy emails in Mail on Mac

With that said, if you don't see emails when checking your account via webmail, then you'll want to connect with your email service provider to find out how to access those older emails and see if you're able to change a setting on their end to view them in the future.

Take care.

Hi Sparks0829, thanks for replying. Nowhere in the preferences can I find how to set the retention date for mails. I looked on Webmail like you suggested and nothing was older than 2 April. Does this mean they have all been wiped from the server? including the 100 or so mails I sent on 16 March. I wish you could still do POP, as I have no faith in IMAP at all (as this just goes to prove!) When I look at the Account info, it only shows 42 mails in my inbox, instead of the the several hundred that should be there. Is there a way I can create folders where I can move important mails that I want to keep and they will be stored on the Mac instead of the server?
