Can I trade in a refurbished iphone for a new one?

My dad recently bought an iphone 11 pro max from somebody but we have a suspicion that it might be refurbished. When my brother was checking the phone and we couldn't see the battery health. So I was just wondering if we can trade the iphone for the exact same model.
