I'm having this problem too since updating to IOS 14.5. When going to sleep with the audible app on sleep timer the sound dies as soon as the screen goes to sleep but the app keeps playing. The only work around I have come up with is to force close the app then restart. Then restart the timer and manually close the screen with the right button. This allows the app to continue to play.
same problem here after I updated to ios15 this morning. Normal Audible audio stops when phone sleeps when using headphones. I uninstalled Audible and reinstalled it and that seems to have fixed it for me.
The reset worked! I have a new phone, and the problem showed up when I migrated to it. Turning off the 2 things in iOS settings did nothing. But, following your directions for resetting audible itself, that worked. Thank you for posting.
i couldn't find the "Allow Audible to Access Media & Apple Music" option, but I did find the switch for "Background App refresh" was off and switch it off. I force closed Audible and reopened it and the problem was gone.
Since installing iOS 15.0, my Audible app stops working as soon as the screen goes to sleep. Each day I delete the Audible app, reinstall, and the app will work for that night. The next day it will not work unless I go through the same process. Anyone have a suggestion? This method is tiresome to say the least.
This worked for me! I was having the same problem and I turned off the permission, restarted the app and it still was shutting off so I turned the permission back on and now it works when the screen turns off or if I close my case 😊😊😊
This just happened to me. Solved it by changing phone auto-lock mode to “never” in the settings and playing audible for a while. Turned usual auto-lock option back on and have not had issues since.
Under settings icon, tap display and brightness, then tap auto-lock for options and tap never. Play audible book, then return to auto-lock options and choose your preferred option instead of never.
It seems that there are several temporary solutions to this problem. Last night I phoned Audible. The tech person had me delete my book and then download it again. That worked last night. On a previous call to Audible, another tech person had me turn off, then turn on a couple of settings. That worked for a couple of days. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it. That worked for a day. Turning on “never” in auto lock may solve the problem temporarily but then you have to remember to turn it off. Isn’t it Audible’s responsibility to fix this glitch? The techs I have spoken to tell me they’re working on it. We’re all still waiting.
To clarify, I don’t have to turn on the never every time, only the once on them off, and still no issues (so far). But definitely agree it should be solved, it’s hugely frustrating when it keep happening!
I received an email from Audible. This link is to a "solution" they say fixes the problem of the app shutting off once the screen goes to sleep https://help.audible.com/s/article/how-can-i-update-the-audible-app?language=en_.... However, I have tried this Audible update and the problem returns.
This worked for me on my iPad. Went to settings, then audible and turned off media & Apple Music.
I then quit the audible app and restarted it. Now I can close the cover to my iPad or let the screen lock without the narration going silent! 👍
It's December 2021 and this is still a persistent problem. Makes me want to switch to another type of phone. It is getting real old. After all this time you would think Apple would solve this reoccurring problem.
It’s not Apple; it’s Audibles app and some sort of software issue with it. Audible support is who you should make a support ticket with. The more we submit bug issues with their app, The more likely it is to be fixed by their dev team. I haven’t had the issue reoccur since I found my workaround for it until Audible Devs fix it for good. Hope you find a long term fix or Audible fixes their app soon!
This is happening to me too & it’s driving me crazy
How can this be move from level 1 to level extremely annoying and must be fixed ASAP?
Disable auto lock in the settings
it fixed it for me. Please see photo
