I have had the same issue and was able to bypass it by going to settings/Audible. Turn OFF Allow Audible to Access Media & Apple Music. Restart your audible app and now you can turn off you screen and use audible the same way as before the update.
Disabling background app refresh fixed this for me.
Under Settings, go to Screen Time.
Scroll down to Always Allowed.
Scroll down to Audible and tap the green plus to add it to the Allowed Apps.
Hi Mendogirl,
Welcome to Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having an issue with your Audible app after your update. We'd like to help.
Does this happen in all books in Audible or just a specific one? Have you had a chance to Restart your iPhone since this started? If not, that can be helpful. Then, check out these steps to try to get the app working again: If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open
If you continue to have issues after that, reaching out to Audible will be a great next step: How to contact an app developer.
Hope that helps.
Take care!
I had some success fixing this problem by turning off all notifications (on all apps) and retbooting the iphone. Audible worked in all situations when screen locked (wired headphones, bluetooth). Then suddenly, it stopped working with the blue tooth in my car.
For me this happens when the App is running or in the background and I connect to a dock or start listening bluetooth. Until they fix this I do have a work around. Force close the app. Now you can connect either dock or headset. Once connected you can restart the app and it will continue to work when the screen goes to sleep.
This is happening to me as well. I purchased new headphones today because I thought my airpods were broken since this happens on multiple devices.
I did just turn off continuous playback and sync across devises in settings.
It is working for now.
I previously tried other suggestions here and they did not work for me but I appreciate anyone who shared.
hope this helps until patch is sent to update.
i couldn't find the "Allow Audible to Access Media & Apple Music" option, but I did find the switch for "Background App refresh" was off and switch it off. I force closed Audible and reopened it and the problem was gone.
It seems that there are several temporary solutions to this problem. Last night I phoned Audible. The tech person had me delete my book and then download it again. That worked last night. On a previous call to Audible, another tech person had me turn off, then turn on a couple of settings. That worked for a couple of days. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it. That worked for a day. Turning on “never” in auto lock may solve the problem temporarily but then you have to remember to turn it off. Isn’t it Audible’s responsibility to fix this glitch? The techs I have spoken to tell me they’re working on it. We’re all still waiting.
I Just Fixed Mine. Not sure if this solution was posted yet, But I fixed mine by going into the Audible app settings and Disable auto lock. Works perfect now, Hope this helps
Disable auto lock in the settings
it fixed it for me. Please see photo
This must be related to “Allow Audible to Access Media & Apple Music”. In my case it was turned off already. Turning it on fixed my issue. Now at least my cabled earphones can work again
Hi, I put my phone on aeroplane mode and now the audible app plays continuously, even when the phone is locked. Hope that helps
Use mendogirl’s workaround. Restart the app and set your sleep timer. I set mine to “end of chapter”.
Delete the Audible app and re-download it from the App Store. It fixed it for me.
You have to Connect your phone to a Bluetooth device or use an adapter to plug-in headphones or a speaker directly then it will work.
