MacBook Pro completely frozen, possible Google Update?
I have a 2020 MacBook Pro 13”. I was using Safari (just using Google Drive) and out of nowhere my device became unresponsive. It was playing music in the background on one of the tabs, and it kept playing while I was unable to click on the Force Quit menus or even click on Spotlight to open Activity Monitor.
After 2-3 minutes of waiting, I managed to close some of the tabs and windows and then opened Terminal to execute ‘top’ and find out what was causing it, and found “GoogleSoftwa...” was operating at 43% CPU along with “systemstats” at 39% along with many “mds” processes. My only Google app is Google Chrome but never use it, and after restarting my computer I checked to see if it was some Chrome update bug but it said it last updated almost a month ago, so I have no clue why this Google process was even running in the background (and I’m guessing was the cause for the sudden unresponsiveness.)
Is there any good explanation for this behavior, and what I can do to prevent freezing like this in the future? Thanks.
