WHY can't I print in draft mode on my Canon Pixma printer?

Look I get how technical Apple likes to be but really? I just want to print in draft mode. I don't care about airprint. If I have to connect my printer by cable so be it BUT just GIVE me the alternative. I don't want to spend a ton of money on ink every time Im forced to make a print of just a receipt in high quality.

So what gives? Im using mac OS Catalina on an 2014 Imac. Why won't Apple let me do this? I called Canon they say it's Apples fault I call Apple support telephone help they have no idea.

Download Drivers Only from Manufacturers:

If you want to get drivers for something, do not get them from a Third-Party, as that may end up being a potential Malware Installation or a Phishing Scam.

So... Two Thoughts: Either move on to purchasing a new printer, or spend much less than you would on a new printer, by purchasing software: Virtual Machines

Run this Through a Virtual Machine:

If there ends up being not solution for Catalina, consider using a Virtual Machine(VM) for this printer (Windows-in-a-window). You would open items in it, and print right off of that. All would be accessed and would operate as desired on the VM. Virtual Machine applications include VMWare Fusion and ParallelsLearn more here: What Is a Virtual Machine? - VMWare Support.

FWIW, a lot of printer models simply do not offer draft mode. Apple has nothing to do with it. I've had Canons for about 8 years and none of the models have offered a draft mode. And, today's ink prices aren't as bad/high as they used to be plus the ink lasts quite a while. Using "normal" mode on mine uses very little; the only time it uses more is when I print best quality on photo paper. Printer manufacturers do need to sell ink - their product last for quite a few years and they'd go out of business without selling something until you need another printer.

Recommend this to Apple:

Do Your Part: Being of no option, as of this reply, let Apple know about this incompatibility thought that comes to mind.  Apple won't get back to you directly, but the more feedback they receive on this, the more they will know what to include in updates to come.

So, Provide the Feedback:

  1. Go Here: Feedback - macOS - Apple
  2. Select: "Software/Hardware Compatibility" for the "Feedback Type"
  3. Select: "Printing" for the "Feedback Area"
  4. Proceed from there as necessary
