iPhone 7 Silence Switch not working as expected

When I turn on the silence switch only phone call rings are silenced. Text/iMessage alerts still play. Is this normal? I thought that switch silenced all alerts. Is there another way to quickly stop all auditory alerts/rings from coming through?

PGAdams, Thanks for providing us with that update. Next can you tell us if the audible alerts that you’re receiving on your iPhone while the Ring/Silent switch is turned on are from an emergency contact? The reason we ask is because alert tones from emergency contacts are expected behavior when the Ring/Silence switch is physically turned on your device.

Hello PGA Adams, Thanks for giving those steps a try. Can you please tell us if the Ring/Silent switch ever worked correctly on your device? If so, please tell us when you first noticed that it stopped working and if you recently made any changes to the settings in your device.

Lastly, can you please tell us which version of iOS you are currently running?

i did what this article says, but still have the issue. With the silent mode switch turned on, all calls are silenced, but texts/iMessages from contacts marked as a Favorite still gives an audible alert. I’m fairly certain that the silent switch used to silence all audible alerts or rings, but it no longer does. That certainly reduces the usefulness of that switch.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.
