I don't want my photos to sync to my mac

Is there a way I can disable my photos from being uploaded or synced to my Mac?

iMac, OS X 10.11

Yes. On both your iPhone and Mac turn off "My Photo Stream". Also disable iCloud Library on both if you currently have it enabled.
