Apple TV app on the new Sony A90j TV
When can we expect to see support for the Apple TV app on the Sony A90j TV running the Google TV app? I am having a hard time logging into my Apple account on this TV.

Just suffered with the “verification error” for a half hour but found a way. None of the privacy settings or app update methods worked for us.
Maybe this can help someone.
On your iphone (this needs to be a device with same apple ID you want to sign into the tv app with), go to a video you’ve taken and use the corner swipe menu to screen mirror to the sony tv. The tv should show up in your list of devices. Let the video play for a bit then pause. Don’t stop screen mirroring but press the home button on the tv remote and navigate to the apple tv app. From the settings menu get to the sign on screen and choose sign in with device. Use the same device you screen mirrored to enter the code.
Once you have successfully signed on this way, you should be able to add other apple id accounts from the settings menu as well.
Hopefully this helps someone else!

Finally got AppleTV app working on the A90J but it took a little bit of troubleshooting. In the Help & Feedback section of the settings, go to Support information. In the Questions and Answers section there is a topic entitled "Apple TV access issues or unable to pair Apple devices using the Airplay app or Homekit". Choose that topic.
Here it states: "To use the Apple TV app . . . you will need to enable Sony Smart TV services via the Bravia TV Privacy Policy. If you experience Apple TV access or connection issues etc. etc." Follow these steps to resolve the issue:
After completing this confirmation of the Sony privacy policy, I was able to eventually unlock the AppleTV app with my AppleID account and password and the process was fairly smooth after that.
Guess it helps to Read the Manual!
The solution I found was to go to settings >apps>scroll till you find Apple TV then clear data and clear cache. After doing that I scrolled up to “Open”. When I tried to sign in I chose using mobile device and it displayed a QR code to scan.
I suspect the app developer left some test data that was causing the login to fail.
Finally! I followed someone else’s instructions saying to enable the Sony Smart TV Policy settings (help button on remote, status and diagnostics, privacy setting, read agreement, check “Sony Smart TV services”, click proceed) and this did not make a difference for Apple TV immediately. However, I then went to tv settings, apps, Apple TV, clear cache, remove data. Then I went to settings, system, and then selected restart. Once the tv restarted I was able to not only log into Apple TV but also add the tv to HomeKit!
For posterity sake: I had this same issue. None of the suggestions in this thread worked. Airplay and HomeKit setup wouldn’t work either. Turned Wi-Fi and Ethernet and Bluetooth on/off. Cleared cache and data from app. Ensured all software was updated. Force quit the app. Re-consented to the privacy fine print. Ensured remote start was enabled. All with no joy.
Embarrassingly, what got it working after all that was restarting the TV thru the Settings menu (not just power cycling via the remote). All Apple apps magically stated working.
it sure would be nice if Sony and/or Apple and/or Google figures out root cause and fixes it for future users. It’s a frustrating blemish on an otherwise stellar system.
Please make sure you update the software on your Sony if you're still having a problem with verification. It worked for me immediately after the update.
I went in circles with it not accepting the pass code or QR code. Try updating the TV's software and then start over, that did the trick for me.
FYI I was getting stuck unable to mirror as the TV would give me a code to enter on my other apple device, but the device would say it was the wrong code. I ended up turning off Bluetooth on the TV. Then when I tried mirroring again it worked and I was able to login to AppleTV. Then turned Bluetooth back on and no problem. No clue why that worked (TV showed only the remote control as being connected via Bluetooth so maybe some weird interference?)
Thanks roboedit.
I also had to reset the app in the TV.
Open the app::
scroll across to the settings cog::
scroll down to Reset Apple TV.
This worked for me. I had to try and airplay the video twice as it first came up with the screen to setup AirPlay. But the next time I got the code to enter on my phone and then it all sprung into life.
Thank you!!!
The AppleTV app was pre-installed on the A90J. I had a hard time signing in with Google the first time. I thought it was a weak wifi signal, but the next time I tried, all was OK even though it took several minutes. It wouldn't accept my password for the 5 Gz network.
QR code worked for me I didn’t try the code
Hum . . . Well I’m still having a hard time signing in. I know I am using the right ID and password but continue to get a “Verification Failed” error message. I have never had an issue signing in using my AppleID in the past. I’m open to any suggestions as to what is going on. I have tried twice reinstalling the app. Nothing seems to work.
Thanks Alias808 for your initial reply. It was helpful. If nothing else, knowing that someone with the Sony TV was able to get the AppleTV app at least working, motivated me to keep searching and trouble shooting. Thanks again!
Thanks!!
After trying everything repeatedly and wasting two hours your answer fixed it. It's pretty frustrating that you have to opt into all kinds of spying and data sharing in order to get the TV you paid for to operate correctly.
