iPhone Green Dot With No Apps Allowed to Use Camera

I am having an iPhone issue with the green dot that indicates that the camera is in use . The phone will be asleep and when I tap the screen to wake it I see the green dot indicating that the camera is in use. I immediately unlock my phone and swipe down Control Center to see what has used the camera recently and it never shows anything. After about 5 seconds the green dot disappears.

No apps on my phone are allowed access to my camera (switched off in Privacy), and typically only Phone, Messages and Mail are open in the background. I have an iPhone XS, always kept up-to-date, currently running iOS 14.4.2 -and I reboot it regularly.

Several people have posted about this, but no definitive answers or resolutions have been posted. What's going on?! Help!

Always a standard restart, I think I’ve only had to do one forced restart since I’ve had the phone (a few years).

I will certainly get in touch with Apple Support if no solutions turn up here, but I always like to check with the community before doing so.

Thanks for the reply!

Hello Wengro,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities. We understand that you're having concerns regarding the camera indicator on your iPhone. It's good to know that you're keeping the iOS updated. You mentioned that you've restarted your iPhone several times; are you performing a standard or forced restart when doing this?

Restart your iPhone

Force restart your iPhone

If you've done types of restarts and the issue continues, it would be best to report this to Apple Support for deeper investigation. You can connect with them directly at Get Support.

Best regards.
