sync calendar/contacts with iCloud versus iTunes

@jimbob5941 - Since that just came out right on the heels of 17.5, I'm waiting. But, 17.4.1 and iTunes 12.13.2.3 works with Outlook 2019, still.

17.5 works OK with iTunes 12.13.2.3. Have not tried 17.5.1 yet but I would think that would be ok too.

Well I don't sync. my iPhone to Outlook (2013 - 32bit) all that often...

Today ... the sync. of contacts worked fine... but NOT calendar :-(

I'm not sure if it is just coincidence or not ....

Previously

I blocked iTunes from accessing the internet and had at least one successful

sync.

Now

calendar sync. Does not work … it “processes” for about 30 seconds, posts no

error messages, but does not update the iPhone calendar.

If anybody has any ideas … I’d love to hear them!

Here’s what I’ve tried so far…

•  Ran ScanPST repeatedly
• Both itunes and iphone were set
• to 30-day sync-window  I changed them both to 90
• tried again … no good … put them back to 30 days … no good…
• Made sure “extra” calenders were turned off in iPhone
• Rebooting phone, rebooting laptop
• In iTunes sync / advanced:  “replace information on this iphone…” for Calendar only…
• Chanced from sync “all” calendars sync only “selected” … ( I only HAVE one calendar,

but I thought it might help … no … so I switched it back to “all”.

• Was running iOS 14.7.0   upgraded iOS to 14.7.1  (upgraded without using iTunes)

sigh..............

I have the same version of iTunes and my calendar and contacts currently sync as before the deprecate message appeared.

I am wondering if Apple wants to get rid of iTunes altogether. They already killed it on the Mac where you have to sync your contacts and calendar through iCloud.

12.12.2.2 and iOS 15.0.2 -> Sync with Outlook's Contacts and Calendar(s) still works

BUT - I am seeing some oddities with Outlook categories I have selected on my Calendar events.

I have a dark-blue shade for both Business items and NCAAF games. Now, my events that were only labeled as NCAAF have both that and Business categories checked on. Not sure if iTunes is doing this or my new move to Outlook 2019 from Outlook 2010.

Thank you Ausbossy! I also agree this is so frustrating that at any moment we could lose this important function. I am ok with change, however this here is strong arming us towards icloud which is probably fine for most but NOT for me, I prefer to control my own data and most importantly keeping my "BACKUPs" local. Yes of course there are possibly a few other options, but they are NOT realistic for the average user. Anyways I'll get off my soap box now....

So after reading your response I went ahead and upgraded to 12.12.2.2 running iOS 15.2 and I too can now confirm to the community the contact synchronization feature is still working!

***NOTE TO APPLE STAFF*** Please reconsider leaving the contact and calendar synchronization in place, there are still a lot of loyal users that use this incredibly important function daily.

I'm not entirely surprised. Neither Outlook or Windows are Apple products or services. And this will be a relatively niche problem. I don't have the numbers, but I'd guess they are plenty of happy campers using the cloud who would have no reason to discover this problem exists, or at least will do.

Great, I just did iTunes 12.12.3.5 with iOS 15.4.1 on both my original SE phone and iPad Air4 and sync worked on both.

Next week, @JimBob5941. Gordon Kelly gave it the "all go" on the 28th, but I'll wait for his week-later final verdict.
