Email: Error message “No password provided for “Main” Please go to Mail Account and enter a password”

I have three email accounts that I use that are on my

Windows PC running Microsoft Windows Pro version 10 and an older version of

Microsoft Outlook version 2007. Also have installed the three email accounts on

an   IPhone model Xr running  IOs version 14.4.2 and an  IPad - 5th Generation also running

OIs version 14.4.2.  The main AT&T.net  email account that I have used for years

started acting up about a week ago and when I check the main account email

Inbox I get this error message     “No

password provided for “Main”   Please go

to Mail Account and enter a password”.

The alternate AT&T email account and the ICloud email accounts

seem to work just fine on the IPhone and IPad.

The Main AT&T and the Alternate AT&T email addresses are

basically the same except for the email address and the password and both use

the IMAP setup for the Inbound and Outbound Servers. The ICloud email works

fine and uses the Apple setup information that I have not changed after setting

up the IPhone and IPad some three years ago.

I tried reentering the password and also deleting the Main

email account and I still get the same error message.  When entering the password I tried typing it

in or copy and paste from a known AT&T email file that works fine for the

Desktop PC using either the Outlook access method or using Web browsers “Windows

Edge” and “Google Chrome” methods to access email and those seem to work just

fine.

Yesterday I searched the Internet and found one response with the same problem and that person said he tried entering his AT&T Secure Mail key instead of the email account password and that fixed the problem. I finally tried that yesterday and it fixed my problem. So said in the AT&T instructions this Secure Key was not required in the newer Apple products running the latest iOS software. Must be some change within AT&T that caused this problem. My newer AT&T email account is still using the original email account password and so far continues to work fine - go figure that out.

Hey there kc_4-26-21,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We understand you’re having issues accessing a specific email account on your iPhone. We’ll be happy to help.

You’ve done some great troubleshooting so far. Based on the following article - Add an email account to your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - you may need to reach out to AT&T directly to let them know you can’t complete setting up your email account. They may be able to provide further insight as to why this is happening.

Take care.
