iTunes Track Names via Gracenote ERROR

I am receiving the following message when I try to get track names for imported CDs: 'An error occurred while accessing the Gracenote server. Gracenote Error: 0x0'.

I am running Windows 10 - I did try everything suggested (check Internet connection, turnoff VPN, updated iTunes, and added iTunes to my firewall allowed list).

Any suggestions? I have had no trouble in the past and nothing changed in my system.

As for alternatives to iTunes, you might want to try VLC. Someone has already mentioned Windows Media Player, but it seems like Microsoft ended its contract with Gracenotes (or did that apply only to Windows 7 and earlier?)

I’m still baffled by this issue that affects many but not all iTunes users. The only thing that seems clear is that it began in late April.

This suggestion as to a fix made me realize I had a laptop with Windows 10 on it and low and behold the version of iTunes had NOT been updated to the latest version so I had an opportunity to put this idea/solution to a test...

I fired up iTunes for the first time, logged into my account and loaded one of the CDs that should have brought up the metadata info (Drumroll please...)

Well it failed. It did not work... Still the same Gracenote error. on a Win 10 machine with an older version of iTunes on it. So back to Tim Apple. We are looking for a fix, Sir!

same here since a few days updated itunes with itunes support, switched off all firewallss, routers, etc... so this must be an itunes problem.

Another possible cause, is that there is something wrong with the service.gracenote.com server itself. When you try to get there with a browser, it works sometimes, sometimes not, with a DNS failure.... seems to be slow as well. Maybe the Gracenote server has an issue, respectively there IP settings... Question is how to make them aware? They don't provide support to ordinary people

In his May 17 post on page 2 of this thread, Heisenberg decided to test with a PC on which iTunes had NOT been updated to the latest version, and Gracenotes failed there as well.

Of course those for whom Gracenotes is working have no reason to post in this thread, but they may occasionally post elsewhere. DeanRitter might be surprised to hear that he shouldn’t be getting any Gracenotes metadata because his iTunes 12.11.3.17 is believed to be faulty: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/252735236

I have had the same issue as well with Gracenote 0x0 error messges. I was part way through encoding a box set of discs over the course of the week in question (April 26) and the error message began mid-way through the process.

One vendor has even offered to send me pre-encoded & pre-metatagged ALAC recordings in lieu of this issue but no one can seem to put their finger on what exactly is the issue other than "Gracenote Server issue". I would rather that Apple have the problem addressed than rely on the good graces of a record label.

Not on my end.

I just inserted a disc from a set that I was in the middle of encoding when all this began. I encoded the first 3 discs successfully, then a few days later tried the rest and no go. It is still the case that the metadata is not coming up and is showing the error message.

I checked "Apple Software Update" to see if a new version of iTunes was there to correct the problem but I am on the most current version of iTunes for Windows.

I wonder if there is a preference file that points to a particular Gracenote database that can be changed? I had a quick look but couldn't find a file that contains that kind of information. I wonder if anyone knows anyone who is running an older version of iTunes on Windows and if they still have access to the Gracenote database?

Still no change on my end. I even tried rebooting the modem as someone suggested above. Still the same issue 0x0 Gracenote error.
