iOS 14.5 podcast app issue

Updated to iOS 14.5. Synced podcasts with iTunes and podcasts downloaded to Apple Podcast app on iPhone 12 Pro & iPad Pro. No podcasts, however, show up in Shows in Podcast App Library in either device. Apple Podcast app is up-to-date. Are others having this issue and are they able to fix it? Will there be an update to the Apple Podcast app or to iOS to fix this issue?

Hello, I don't have the same issue because I don't sync from itunes, however, right after upgrading to iOS 14.5 on my phone, I lost about half of the podcasts I used to follow ... maybe this is similar in a sense that they may be hidden somewhere ?

it seems like the problem of the Apple server not updating to the latest episodes is rapidly being solved. I noticed the last of the missing Sunday news programs were updated this morning and showed up on my Podcast app.

This is the first I’ve heard of the newest-to-oldest and oldest-to-newest issue before. The sorting feature seems to work fine whether in Station and Show window lists. To what window list are you referring?

Note the yellow circles in the pic below to see recently played episodes.

Podcasts are downloaded to the Apple Podcast app. It is not that they are hidden somewhere but a technical glitch. I got a phone call from Apple Technical Support this morning. They are working on the issue for they have been inundated with complaints. Hopefully they will have an update to the Podcast app, iOS, or both in a few days.

I would like to add this in case someone else is having this issue. I published 3 episodes of my podcast since the beginning of the month and none of them show on my podcast app. My wife and others can see 2 of them while I can’t see any. But when I use the app on my MacBook, all episodes can be found. This is very confusing and seems to only have happened once I updated my IOS on my iPhone. How is it that some are able to see the episodes it I can’t?

Hello,

Here is something I really hate with the new app : I usually listen to podcasts from older to newer episodes, so I choose the setting accordingly on your 3rd screenshot. However, with this new version of podcast app, this setting also changes the display order of the episodes in the app.

As a consequence, for podcasts that have a long playback history, this means that the first episode you see displayed in the list of episodes is months or even years old, and you have to scroll down the list forever to see the latest episodes.

Is there something that I did wrong ? How can I just listen episodes in the correct chronological order but also, like iOS 14.4 and before, have them displayed from the newest to the older ones ?

Thanks for your ideas ;)

Thank you so much for this, it is very helpful!

I did talk with support about the Podcasts not updating issue, and it seems we must wait for a fix in the next update.

The first tab on my phone (Listen Now) no longer works at all for the podcasts which I subscribe to. So, the Stations suggestion is quite a good solution for finding my next listen. It is also just a great tip even without the current problem! Thanks again :))

I had the problem of some podcasts not showing up in my Shows list, even though I had the downloaded episodes on my phone, and could play them but only from Downloads (not from Shows). I finally figured out the fix while on hold with Apple.

Here it is:

Go to Library/Downloads (in the Podcast app).

Click on the ellipsis (...) on an episode of a missing show.

Click on Go to Show (it's sometimes near the top, and sometimes near the bottom).

In the upper right, if you have a + sign, click on that to "Follow", whereupon it will change to a downward-pointing arrow. There is also an option to enable/disable automatically downloading new episodes if you hit the arrow again.)

Now go back to Shows. The missing podcast should be there, with all the episodes you've downloaded.
