iPad Pro 1st generation touchscreen not responding

Hi

My daughter has a 1st generation iPad Pro 12.9 inch wifi/cellular that she got from a family member a few months ago. A couple of days ago the touchscreen stopped responding to touch, meaning that the passcode to unlock it couldn't be entered. The physical buttons do still work, so we've tried hard resetting it multiple times, which didn't help. We've then gone for the full restore to factory settings using iTunes on the PC, and that hasn't worked either. The touchscreen doesn't respond to any input at all.

The iPad is running iOS 14.4. Apple have suggested sending back to them for repair, but with no Apple Care, it could cost us £455. Before we give up on it, is there anyone out there who has managed to resolve the problem without sending back to Apple? Or is it repairable anywhere in the UK at all at a reasonable cost?

Thanks in advance

Be aware that if an Apple device is repaired outside of Apple itself, genuine parts for repairs can only be obtained by official Apple Authorised Service Providers (AASP). As such, an attempted repair by a third-party will not use OEM parts - and may result in loss of key functionality; the Operating System can detect non-genuine components.

A screen repair will involve disturbing the TouchID sensor/home button. In most cases, this essential element will cease to function unless it is cryptography reset by Apple.

If you contemplate an our-of-warranty repair, you would be unwise to entrust this work outside of Apple’s official repair network.

Steps to try before entertaining repair or giving up… start with a forced-restart of the iPad:

  • On an iPad with a Home button: Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.
  • On other iPad models: Press and quickly release the volume up button, press and quickly release the volume down button, then press and hold the top button. When the Apple logo appears, release the button.

Note: If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen.

Hi

Thank you for replying, and that's not something I knew about with regard to parts.

I have tried the method you suggest several times, and have even gone further by restoring the iPad completely, but to no avail. It certainly looks like a hardware issue, but it's impossible to say at this stage. I'd be interested to hear from anyone that has had this issue and managed to resolve it though.
