Scheduled Dark Mode activation

I have recently got BigSur installed on my iMac. I was wondering if Dark Mode can be set using some time of day scheduler? In System Preferences, I can set "Auto" for Dark Mode, but I found out that "Light" mode was on well past evening to the point that I had to set Dark mode manually. I looked up some discussion threads and did not find anything suitable. I installed DarkNight from Nightowl but that software also didn't change the mode to light or dark even though it showed a scheduling option.

Any advice here for automatically switching to dark and light modes like Nightshift? If not, then can Apple take note to introduce this feature in the next BigSur release?

Auto does not offer any options for customization.

You may use the Notification center to more quickly change between Light and Dark mode, without having to open System Preferences:

Click in the Display area, and then click to toggle Dark Mode on or off:

How about doing this even faster - just press a keyboard shortcut to toggle Dark Mode on and off?

It turns out to be very easy to do!

Open Automator, and create a new "Quick Action" (aka "Service"), and add just one action, "Change System Appearance":

Save it - for example, call it "Toggle Dark Mode".

Now all this is left is to add a shortcut.

Go to System Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts->Services, and add the desired shortcut - for example

Command-Option-Control-Shift-D:

Now all you have to do is press Command-Option-Control-Shift-D and switch between the two modes
