When will there be an update to the iPassword app for iOS 14.5? I'm unable to get to my passwords.
iPhone XR
I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.
I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.
Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.

Hello everyone. This will only help those that have a backup somewhere and know their current vault password.
Download Password Manager
setup vault with same password
create a backup to DropBox (will be blank)
go to DropBox and navigate to
Apps/iPassword+/
you will see here the blank backup you just did.
Find your original backup and replace the blank one with that one.
Open password manager (new one with good trim but same logo)
settings
restore from DropBox (will get success but will be blank first time)
close and repeat the restore again and should now populate
good luck
So this is a pretty serious problem.
***Please note this is NOT 1Password***
So, to break this down...
Once you update to 14.5, you cannot open the old version of iPassword. You see a message "iPassword need to be updated - The developer of this app needs to update it to work with this version of iOS." So, does that mean we wait until they updated it??? Or do you look for a newer version in the App store. So I go the app store.
When you go to the App store, "iPassword" is no longer available to download. What you get is something called "Password Manager - Lock Apps Safe Vault" with a **different** icon. The only reason I know it's the new version is if you look at the screen shots, you can see it's the same.
So you think, great, download the new version right? Wrong. When you attempt to restore your data from the old version of the app using iCloud, you get a rather long message that says:
Your backup file on iCloud not found
If you were using another iPassword (different icon) [Why yes, I was]. We are so sorry to tell you that will we no longer provide it for you to download due to Apple restriction. So your backup file on iCloud can't be used any more and also can not be restored to this iPassword at present, because the two apps use two different APP ID.
[So, what that means to me is the this new app can't use a backup from the old one because they are considered *totally different apps**, not an update. But there is sort of an implication that it will work in the future??] Please go to your old iPassword to back up your files using Wi-Fi or iTunes and then use the same way to restore your backup file here.
[This would probably work except how do you open your old iPassword to do the Wi-Fi backup if it won't open. You need to be able to open the app and initiate a backup for this to work. Can't open it, can't back it up. Also, I understand you can no longer access your apps via iTunes so you can't backup iPassword alone using iTunes]
Afterwards you can use iCloud or Dropbox to sync your data anytime.
What I've done so far...
I actually had an old version of iPassword on an older phone (6s) not running 14.5. I tried to restore from iCloud thinking it would use my new phone's version of the data. It did not. Not sure why but it appears the two phones are considered separate. I checked the data on the restore to the old phone and I know it's not current b/c it's missing some passwords I created a few days ago.
So I connected to iTunes but of course, the apps are no longer visible so I couldn't back it up.
Tried Wi-Fi but the Mac but I get "Safari Can't Connect to the Server".
I tried and successfully backed up the *old* data on my 6s to DropBox. Opened the new app on my Xs and tried to Restore from Drop Box. No love. I get the same stupid message I copied above, i.e., it doesn't recognize the backup from the old version of the app.
In other words fun seekers, we appear to be totally F'd. There is no way to access the old app on an iPhone running 14.5 so we can't even try to back it up. And even in my case, where I have an old version running on an old iPhone, I can back it up to DropBox, but the new version of the app can't read it.
Not sure what to do here. I understand no one can get to the developer.
Should we all get on the App Store and give the new app a really crappy review with the warning that they dropped support for the old version and left us all hanging? I've lost years worth of data, not all of it recoverable because it's not all recoverable passwords.
Any other ideas here?
iPassword v3.0 is what I have on my phone but it's no longer in the general app store, I had to go to my purchases to find it and from there I was able to download it to an older iPhone I had. More confusing, the app in my purchases is no longer called iPassword, I think it's now listed as Password Manager or something like that.
After downloading iPassword to my old iPhone from My Purchases in my App Store profile, I then used the free version of iMazing to extract the application data from my new phone then transfer it to the old iPhone with the working iPassword app.
Next step was to export the passwords to my email (that's the option iPassword gives you) but transferred the passwords to notes via copy and paste, then airdropped those notes to my computer. Now I'm copy and pasting from notes on my computer to a new password manager. I know, a lot of work but at least I have my data. I didn't send the passwords via email because it seemed like a bad idea to have that information in my email, just in case someone ever broke into my account. You can do whatever works for you on this last step.
Thanks for all the restore ideas in this post. I was able to recover my passwords by backing up my iPhone 12 (14.5.1) and performing a full restore onto an old iPhone 8 I had that was still running 13.x. Then, like others I had to get the old iPassword app onto the iPhone 8 by going to the APP store on the 8 and searching in my "Purchased" apps. I found it and it let my install right from there. Once I had the app on the 8 I had to grab the data files from my 12. I had no luck with iMagine for whatever reason. Instead I used iTunes by connecting my 12 to a PC and going into File Sharing /Apps/iPassword. It allowed my to extract just the data file from iPassword and safe it to the PC. Then I connected the iPhone 8 to the same PC, drilled into the app via iTunes the same as on the 12, and dragged in the file I had backed up from my 12. After a warning and clicking next, in about 6 seconds I was up and had my passwords operational on the iPhone 8. I thought about stopping here and just manually writing down all my passwords but I have 200 of them. Instead I added the newer version of iPassword "the one with the gold trim" onto my 12 from the app store. I went back to the iPhone 8 and used the iPassword backup option within the old app to backup my passwords via iTunes. Then finally...form the new iPassword app on my 12 (the one with the gold trim) I was able to perform a restore from within the new app using iTunes and selecting the old apps backup.
Even though im good now, im searching for a new password app as these guys dropped the ball pretty bad in my eyes and might do it again next month.
I tried all the 3rd party apps listed in the thread but they didn't work. It's like Apple has blocked all access to the app. I could see that the app had data in because of the size, but it would not copy to my machine. I tried both a MAC and a PC. I had a hard time sleeping last night so I went through all the troubleshooting steps I could think of and when I got out of be this morning I was able to get my passwords back.
I was able to resolve by:
1) Having an iphone backup on in iCloud
2) Having a device that WAS NOT on iOS 14. My wife's ipad I was on iOS 12
3) Logged her out of iCloud on her iPad, logged myself in
4) Go to App Store on the iOS 12 device | go to Account | go to Purchases | click My Purchases
5) Search for iPassword and redownload it
6) Open iPassword | Create password
7) Go to Settings
8) Restore from iCloud Backup
9) Close and Open the app (the password will be whatever it was at the time you did the backup) and all your passwords will be there.
10) I then made a backup of the passwords via WiFi but I can't read the file because I don't have an app that will open it.
I'm now in the process of manually copying my passwords to paper so I can add them back to a different app IF I decide that's what I want to do going forward.
This is what worked for me. Using a free trial of iMazing I was able to extract the latest password data on my current phone and move it to an old device. I'm copy and pasting from earlier in this thread with a few clarifications.
Go to the iMazing web page, I think it's imazing.com. Download the app, start it and select continue trial on the start up page. Plug in the phone that no longer works with iPassword. When your phone is plugged in it will show in the iMazing browser. Next, find Apps in the iMazing browser and navigate to iPassword. Control click and select Extract App. Save that file to your desktop, it's your password data.
Next step. Have your downgraded phone or ipad ready, I used an extra iphone 5. You will need iPassword on that device. To find the app, go to the app store on your old device, make sure you're signed into your Apple account. Find and select iPassword from your profile in Purchased Apps and download it. If it's already on your old phone skip this step. Next, connect your old iphone/ipad to your computer. Navigate to your device in iMazing, find iPassword in the iMazing browser, control click on iPassword and select Restore App. Navigate to the file you saved on your desktop and select it. Then follow the iMazing prompts. I recreated these directions for myself and it worked for me again. Good luck.
thanks cpens for all the help here. i followed your directions to the tee and was finally able to get it to work and get the old iPasswords app to open on my kid's older iphone that he has not (luckily) updated yet. for anyone that is interested there were a few things that i encountered that i wish i would have known earlier with this approach.
download the iMazing app and use the trial. it's actually a good application and worked really well to download the back up data from my current iPhone (that no longer works with iPassword due to the recent update).
i had to change the profile on my son's iphone to my profile which made my son very nervous and the process makes it sound like you are going to delete a bunch of data or whatever, but just do it.
once in to the older phone that hasn't been updated yet, the trick is to find the old application you purchased and download to the old phone. you cannot search for it in the app store. you have to find it through your Apple ID under setting. once you finally find it, then download it to the old phone.
now you have the iPassword data backed up to your computer. PC worked fine for me. and you have the old iPassword app on your old iphone.
got into the iMazing app on your desktop and with your old iphone plugged into your computer and you should see the old iPassword application. HERE is where i got confused. If you find the app in Imazing and right click it, the Restore option is greyed out. I was so confused for a very long time. then i found an article that you have to actually click the tile in iMazing that says "Manage Apps" from there a new interface comes up with the apps and when you click on iPassword there, the RESTORE feature is there! kinda bad UI if you ask me.
then you navigate to the saved file on your computer and the magic happens.
the bummer here is that while you can finally open iPassword on the old phone, how to get the data? well at this point i was just happy to get access to my passwords so i spent a couple of hours re-typing them into Notes on my current phone. tedious and maybe there is a better way but i used the time to purge no longer used passwords, etc.
anyways, hopes this helps and good luck! thank you cpens!!!!!!!!
Found a working solution (for users syncing with iCloud as a backup).
Open App Store app > Tap profile image in the upper right corner > Tap Purchased > Search "Password" > you should find an app called "Passwords Manager Vault", tap on it > scroll down and tap on the developer name (all foreign language characters) located directly above the Rating and Review section > download app named "Password Manager" > once you get in the app and enter a new password (write it down for now) go to Setting in the app and scroll down to Backup & Restore section and tap Via iCloud > follow the instructions until the sync is complete and you should have all your passwords back! Just worked for my wife's phone a few minutes ago.
Good luck! I've attached images to help out.
I downloaded the new version called iPassword Manager. Once downloaded, I went to settings [lower right corner]. Under 'Backup & Restore' I clicked on "Via iCloud" and all my data restored to the new app.
Not working: "Your backup file on iCould not found. If you were using another iPassword (different icon). We are so sorry to tell you that we will no longer provide it for you to download due to Apple restriction. So your backup file on iCloud can't be used any more and also can not be restored to this iPassword at present, because the two apps use two different APP ID. Please go to your old iPassword to back up your files using Wi-Fi or iTunes, and then the same way to restore your backup file here."
ALCON,
I followed the advice from several users and recovered my passwords. You will need a second phone/ipad running older iOS (pre 14.5), iMazing S/W Tool and Computer.
My Fix:
Step 1 - Download the S/W Tool iMazing (iMazing | iPhone, iPad & iPod Manager for Mac & PC). You can do this on a PC or MAC. And the free trial version provides the necessary tools.
Step 2 - Run the Tool and Connect your iphone
Step 3- Navigate to Manage Apps and Select iPassword App (actually highlight App, then go to the drop down menu with an arrow at the bottom right).
Step 4 - Select Backup App Data (note where you place the file, I just placed on my desktop). Then disconnect.
Step 5 - Get an older iphone/ipad that is running older iOS (pre 14.5). If the older device does not have iPassword then you will need to download. This can't be done in the App Store because the App has been removed. I was able to find and download the iPassword App by reviewing My Purchases history which I navigated to via Setting>Itunes & App Stores>Apple ID>View Apple ID>Purchase History. Depending on your iOS version this might be slightly different.
Step 6 - Turn on Find My Iphone Feature
Step 7 - Connect to Computer and run Imazing S/ W Tool. I used a iPhone 5S running iOS 12.5.3.
Step 7 - Go To Manage Apps again select iPassword. Now select Restore Data from the Drop Down Menu.
Step 8 - Select the backup file you just created from Step 4 and run.
Step 9 - Once the restore is complete, disconnect phone and check to see that your password data is loaded.
Step 10 - Yippie!!! I got my passwords back. Give thanks to the computer Gods and all the helpful folks on this site.
I wish you luck!!!
I just follow the instructions listed by other user ning295 (it is in the page #28 of this converstaion), I copied here...
You have to use a pc, either mac o windows with this app "imazing"... the app you have to install it in your pc. With this app you retrieve the data from ipassword in the iphone with de 14.6 version and uploaded in the old version iphone or ipad (where you have also installed ipassword)... the steps are easy to follow... It took me around 30 minutes to do it... Now I have all the passwords in the older version phone...at least I could retrieve the information I couldnt access anymore, but now I have to pass that info into another password manager (with a better support, of course!)
"Here are the steps:
1)Do a backup of your iPhone with iTune. This may not be needed but it is always safer to do
2)Run iMazing, select Manage Apps on the rideside bar (make sure your iPhone is connected to the computer)
3)Select the device tab and find the iPassword app
4)In the dropdown list next to Uninstall (it is at the bottom right corner of the screen), select Backup App Data
5)Select the location to save the backup file, and select Back up and Extra App Data as Extraction Option
6)Select Next to Extract the data
7)On the other iOS device (iphone or ipad) with older iOS version, open App Store, log into your Apple Account, select the account icon on the top right corner, under Purchased, find the iPassword app you have purchased before and install it. You need to do this as the iPassword app is no longer shown in App Store if you search for it. Of course you can skip this step if you still have iPassword on the other iOS device.
8)Collect the other iOS device to computer, open iMazing and select that device.
9)Select Manage Apps, the fine the iPassword app in the device tab.
10)In the dropdown list next to Uninstall, select Restore App Data
11)Select the backup file you stored in step 6
After restoring the backup, the iOS device will restart and you need to do some initial setup like regular restore from iTune but after that, you will find the iPassword app is working with the data saved from the other device. It takes some time but worked for me - what a relief!"
All:
I did the following using Ning256 suggestion on page 28 of this forum and it worked for me. Very lucky to have an old device laying around (my wife's old phone). Took a bit of time as I am not the most IT savvy, but was able to figure it out. Had to manually transfer the data once able to retrieve, but at least I was able to get it back. Went with Dashlane.
Hope you all have success.

Issue resolved but still very frustrating,
Dear fellow iPassword users, I had the same problem and wanted to pull my hair out. Looking back, it is debatable whether storing all your passwords with an app is a good idea - no one can guarantee the app will work forever and will notify you before it stops working. But I finally was able to solve the problem so I want to share with you.
I started using the iPassword app back in 2013. It saved me a lot of time so I would rate it as one of the most useful apps. But the app suddenly stopped working a couple days ago - popped up a message saying the developer needs to update it to work with new iOS version. It turned out I have the iOS auto update turned on on my iPhone so it automatically updated to 14.6. I have close to 100 passwords saved - not just password but user names. I'm sure most of you have the same problem: there are so many online logins, each requires different user name, password and it is impossible to remember them, especially the ones you don't use often.
After searching the solution and reading the complains here, I realized it is not an easy problem but can be solved (not by trying to contact Apple or the developer).
Below is what you need:
1)A different iPhone or iPad (yes, iPad works) with iOS earlier than 14.5
2)Download iMazing software, just use the free version.
Here are the steps:
It takes some time but worked for me - what a relief!
I finally resolved the problem and restored all my password on my phone after reading the following post. It's really helpful:
https://piunikaweb.com/2021/06/15/ipassword-app-not-working-or-incompatible-with-ios-14-5/
check the update3 in the article, which is the solution for the issue.
For me I actually had a backup file from the iPassword app before the iOS update, so I only did the steps from 12.) to 15.) in the article. If you don't have any backup file of your previous iPassword you have to perform all the steps in the update3 of the article, I didn't try the steps before 12.) so I am not sure if they work.
The link of the free app to be restored your previous iPassword data is:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/password-manager/id998953281
(it is the new iPassword app created by same developer.)
**Note: the backup file name from the new app is iPassword.backup, but from the previous iPassword is iPassword_xx_xx.backup something like that. You need to change the name to iPassword.backup when you do the swap.
Hope this help. good luck every one.
iPassword App not working on iOS 14.5
