When will there be an update to the iPassword app for iOS 14.5? I'm unable to get to my passwords.

I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.

I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.

Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.

I spoke with Apply support today and they advised me that the app ipassword has been discontinued. So I asked then why I could not access my data in that app from iCloud as I pay for storage monthly. They advised that iCloud does not save the data in an app, but just the actual shell of the app. WTF!!! I am so angry as this is not the only paid app I am unable to open due to software update, but it is the most important as has all my passwords for the past 5 years or more on there. I have no idea how to resolve this issue, but I will not be purchasing any more apps. If anyone knows of any other way we can access this information I would love to hear from you. Maybe my next phone and tablet will not be apple.

SOLVED! (Only if you have access to one of your old iPhones)

I’m far from tech savvy so didn’t do all the steps suggested to transfer my passwords over. But i did get the app open! and just transferred my passwords manually.

step 1: pray you still have one of your old iPhones/iPads.

step 2: power it on hoping the original app was installed.

step 3: put in your password. Here lie your beloved passwords which you know wonder if you should ever put in an app again.

Thanks so much to CPens post, I was able to retrieve my passwords and I am not AT ALL computer savvy. Followed his directions using iMazing - had an iPad that hadn't been updated in forever and was able to export iPasswrod data from phone to macbook and import into iPad. Ran into several glitches - including trying to find backup encryption password (which I was sure I never set), 2 factor authentication errors (due to older Macbook), and a few others. Spent several hours on phone with Apple and several emails with iMazing support trying to resolve. It took me the better part of 5 days and actually buying a new Macbook to resolve (I was overdue anyway - old one was circa 2013), but I was FINALLY successful! Trust me, if I can work thru this, anyone can!!! Resist the temptation to throw everything at the wall and be patient and persistent.....yes, I had to buy a new computer but to me it was worth it to get all my data back!

Many thanks to all who posted fixes in this forum...so very grateful and thankful!

When I downloaded new version of iPassword to older iPad, also had gold border. Make sure you go to app store and download the previously purchased version from your "purchased" list under the correct apple id (I actually had to change my apple id as it was purchased by husband's id). I don't recall the blue iPassword icon on my iPad even after installing - I think only the gold one showed up. However, after I did the restore per CPens directions and transferred from Macbook to iPad, the old icon showed up and I was able to access all data. I hope this helps you...

WARNING to all who’s passwords are being held in iCloud limbo due to ‘ipassword’. I used this app as well as a friend of mine. Recently we both discovered warnings about our passwords being part of data breaches/leaks. A couple of my passwords exposed were only stored in this app and only used maybe once or twice. You should make it a point to reset/change all your passwords going forward!

I’ve learned my lesson, no app developer or Company will be trusted with my security again! Back to pen and paper!

I’m confused by the iCloud backup. With iMazing you follow directions to create a back up of your “new phone”. Then plug in the old phone. It should be listed in iMazing now that you plugged it in. From here is where I used iMazing to put the old iPassword app onto the old phone. Then I was able to upload the file onto the old phone with the passwords.

I never used iCloud at all. Only the two phones and iMazing on my PC

Dear ning256, thank you so much for posting this. I followed your instructions to the t and they worked perfectly. I hope karma will see you gain future rewards for being such a helpful community member. To anyone else suffering from this ipassword problem just follow the instructions above to the letter. n.b. ipassword now has a new name "Passwords Manager Vault": its listed under that name when you retrieve your old app purchases.

Great relief

<Apple Support Communities deleted the link I included in my previous post, so I pasted the steps below>

If you forgotten your Itunes backup, you can find your iTunes backup password in your Keychain Access if you have a Mac

Way 1: Recover iTunes backup password with Keychain Access on Mac

Keychain Access is a password manager built in Mac, which stores a variety of passwords for website, email account, servers, iTunes backup, etc. When you back up your iPhone to your Mac using iTunes and check the "Encrypt iPhone backup" option, iTunes will pop up a dialog asking you to enter your password and if you want to remember your password in the Keychain. If you check the "Remember this password in my Keychain" option, your iTunes backup password will be stored in the Keychain. So you can open Keychain to recover your iTunes backup password once you forgot it.

Step 1: Open Finder, and click Applications > Utilities > Keychain Access.

Step 2: After the Keychain Access application opens, select Login on the left side. So on the right side, you will see a list of websites and applications that use Keychain Access to store login information. Look for the item named "iPhone Backup" from the list, and double-click it if you find it.

Tips: If your iPhone Backup is not listed here, which means your iPhone backup password is not stored in Keychain.

Step 3: The window showing iPhone backup info will open, as shown below. With the Attributes selected, check the "Show Password" checkbox.

Step 4: Enter the "login" Keychain password, which is your Mac OS user password by default, and then click "Allow".

Step 5: Now, you are back to the previous window, on which it is now showing your iTunes backup password in the plain text next to "Show Password".
