I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.

I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.

Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.

I had the same problem which I solved by downloading the iPassword PRO app (above). I had to pat £6.95 for it though. The app appears to be exactly the same as the one that has stopped working after the update. All my passwords etc are there though. All I did was set up a master password and then sign in and do a back up from my cloud from settings in the app.

I have posted so many times on this, and there is a lot of good advice on this in past posts. CPens (Page 4) gives very good advice on using iMazing. This can be used to extract data from the old version of iPasswords. I had an old iPad that I used to load the old version, but the problem was I needed it back on my iPhone. I found iTunes really easy to use for this. Go into settings on the old version of iPassword and make a back up onto iTunes to a laptop. Download the new version of iPassword (with gold border) to new iPhone. Go into app and settings to click on restore with iPhone connected to laptop with iTunes. With file sharing click on new version and add file back up from lap top. Click continue in restore in app, and you should be told that this will clear all previous data. Click OK and you should succeed in getting old data onto new version.

Sorry if I have not explained this very well, but it is not rocket science for anyone who is an experienced techie. iMazing worked well to get the old version off. However, you need a device which has not updated to 14.5 or 14.6 to load it up again.

  1. Download the "Password Manager" app which is the same app as ipassword with the same logo except it has gold border around it. You will need to search for "ipassword" in the app store.
  2. Download and install imazing from
  3. Launch imazing and connect your phone to the computer.
  4. Right click iphone on the left hand side under "Available"
  5. Select "Create a editable copy of this backup"
  6. A copy will be created under, expand and go inside this backup and click on "File System" on the left under your phone
  7. Then goto Apps
  8. Locate old ipassword app
  9. Expand it and go inside to locate "Library" folder
  10. Right click XFFile folder and select "copy to PC"
  11. Locate the new password manager app and got to its "Library" folder
  12. Right click and select "copy to Library". Select the XFFile folder in your PC that you just exported out.
  13. Now all your settings should be in the new password app.
  14. Right click on the back up and restore your iphone with "Restore this backup to Device." Restore will only work for licensed imazing.
  15. Once restored, you should be able to see your accounts in the new password manager app.

I was apple to recover my passwords with a bit of work using iMazing trial version like someone else replied.

Luckily I still have access to an iPhone 6 running iOS 12. iMazing let me backup the app using my iMac from my iPhone 12 running the latest iOS and then restore it to the iPhone 6. I was then able to access the app as usual and get out the data i needed.

Like others have said I used an old iPhone running an old iOS version. From purchases in the Apple App store I downloaded the original iPassword onto this old phone. It will be there if you use the same Apple App Store account. Then I downloaded iMazing to my computer (Windows worked just fine). The free version of iMazing did not work for me so I had to spend $35 on the iMazing app but well worth it to get my information back. Then using iMazing I was able to extract the data from my current phone (with the defunct app) onto my computer then restored it to the old phone. Below is the link iMazing sent to me for this process.

I now at least have my information. Has anyone been able to restore their information into the new iPassword App? I have not tried and have reservations about using this app again. Anyone have suggestions on new password managers? In the future I will have hardcopy backups but it is just so convenient to have everything on your phone. Also, make sure to turn off auto update on your old phone. I did all this in airplane mode using a cable. I am not very technical but was concerned to have WiFi on and inadvertently update to the latest iOS version on the only old iPhone I had.

How I restored my iPassword iPhone App after the ios 14.5 iPhone Upgrade

I backup my iPhone to my mac via iTunes and not to iCloud so the iCloud solutions weren’t working for me. I tried backing up and restoring the app from Imazing directly as mentioned in other posts, but I kept getting an error when I tried to backup the app and Imazing support couldn’t resolve it.

I contacted Imazing support for help several times they gave me another solution which is a rendition of leosydney solution that is on this forum. Those steps didn’t work until I made an adjustment to one of the steps and I was finally successful after 4 days of trying to find a solution. Note: I did purchase Imazing so I did this with the purchased version.

Here's what I did differently than what was outlined in the leosydney instructions (see the step by step instructions below my summary that I’m referring to)

I followed steps 1 - 10, but I couldn't find the new iPassword Pro app within my editable iPhone 8 Plus App directory, even though it was on my iPhone 8 Plus. Maybe the backup didn't capture it. But I was able to get my XFFile's out of the iPhone 8 Plus but I couldn't copy the XFFile's back into the New iPassword Pro app on this iPhone 8 Plus editable backup because the new iPassword Pro app was missing.

Instead of using my iphone to restore back to (and this is what I different than the instruction below outlined), I used my friends old iPhone X that has 14.2. ( which is an IOS that works with this app before IOS 14.5 crashed this app) I had reset and erased that iPhone X which retained the 14.2 IOS and I setup my AppleID on it and downloaded the new iPassword Pro app to it from my apple iphone purchases.

Then I made an editable backup, through Imazing (which is outlined in the steps below), of my friends iPhone X that has 14.2 on it. Then within its editable backup, I went to the Apps folder and went to the New iPasssword Pro app and I was able to paste my XFFiles that I copied out from my iPhone 8 Plus where the app wasn't opening.

I followed the instructions of copying back the XFFiles to the new iPassword Pro app outlined in the document: Steps 11 - 15 and I restored that editable backup to the iPhone X and went in and looked at the new iPassword Pro App and all my passwords were there.

I had to get creative to get around this problem but restoring to a different iPhone worked for me.

All my passwords are now in the new iPassword Pro app on my friends iphone X.

On my friends iPhone X, I went into the new iPassword Pro app, clicked Backup and Restore via DropBox. It created a file in my DropBox account.

Note: You have to have the DropBox app on both iphones and create a DropBox account for this to work.

Also note, the old iPasssword app backup file is called something like iPassword_2021_09_30.backup. You’ll need to rename it to iPassword.backup.

So after you backed up the file within the new iPassword Pro App via DropBox and its now in the DropBox portal, you’ll see the backup file that was created from the old iPassword app and its called something like “iPassword_2021_09_30.backup”

Rename it to “iPassword.backup”

Then I went to my iPhone 8 Plus and opened the new iPassword Pro app and went to Backup and Restore via DropBox and clicked Restored and choose the iPassword.backup file.

I think I had to do the restore step twice and it finally worked, so be patient it’ll show up.

Now I have all my passwords back on my iPhone in the new iPassword Pro app.

--- These are  step by step instructions I’m referring to that I followed with the exception of using a different iPhone to restore an editable copy.

7. Then go to Apps

I spoke with Apple Care, and they will be doing whatever they can to reach out to the developer. It was suggested to leave a bad review for the developer (I have posted the directions below). They will have to address the bad reviews to Apple. The Password Manager - Safe Vault they currently have for sale on the app store isn't going to be supported by IOS 14.5 so they will be in trouble if they continue to sell an app that's not supported. That should get someone's attention. According to my phone, the app was installed 8 years ago, and it was last updated 5 years ago. That doesn't make me feel very confident that there will be an update to the old iPassword unless they are forced to. I paid $10 for my app when I purchased it. At least the developer is still in business. So there is that.
