I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.

I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.

Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.

I had to manually type in my iPassword password when starting the app because the old iPhone doesn’t have face recognition. I had the master password written down so it wasn’t an issue for me. Is this what you mean? If I didn’t have that password I’d be locked out of my own account too.

Maybe try this other solution people have posted in the thread. I haven’t tried it myself because I solved the problem already but sounds like it works on your existing phone. I’ll paste below what I’m referring to.

On behalf of MRevelles solution{thank you MRevlles}

Download the new "Ipassword manager"free vision and open iTunes and restore from backup

get an iPhone 8 (I borrowed one from a friend) I also have a Mac.

Go to settings, General, reset and choose Erase All Contents and Settings

when your iPhone 8 starts. Do your regular setting up like it was new

when it asks you if you want to backup…choose other options

make sure you choose to backup NOT with the latest backup, but preferably with a backup of year 2020

or before the release of the iOS 14.5 this will give access to IPASSWORD because at this time you do not want

to update your iPhone 8.

Open ipassword like you used to, and start taking detail pics of your list of passwords, do not forget to unveil your password

before you take the pics

this pics will be store in your iCloud make sure you can see them in your iCloud before you clean your iPhone 8

this sound stupid but that is what I did….get pic by pic and copy manually all your passwords onto your new password app.

I bought 1password.

Sorry, I know the method is very primitive..but that is the most effective way I could come up with.

Thanks you cpens for the great tips. I managed to get all my passwords back using your method of imazing apps and using my wife old iPad. Really appreciate the help. Just a side note for anyone who still wants to use the ipassword apps, I manage to find out the app developers Twitter account and so happens he replies today to a customer complaining about this problem 5 days ago . His account is @setnul and I already replied to his questions to the customer and let see how responsible is this guy is. I do still hope he can update his apps so that I don’t have to write down all the passwords one by one to a paper. Cheers!

I had this same problem after updating to the new ios, sooo frustrating! I spent all day trying to access my passwords from my icloud where the info from my ipassword app were located. I finally used my old ipad with a previous IOS version (12.4), went to the app store, in "purchased" apps, then looked in "not on this ipad", found the original ipassword app I downloaded back in 2013, it was called Passwords Manager Vault then, downloaded it from the cloud, and then restored from iCloud. omg they were all there....I am so relieved!!! Good luck to everyone, I hope this helps and it works for you too.

Shame on the developer and Apple for not warning us before updating our iOS.

May have found a solution:

Get the new (free version) called "Password Manager ' " in Apple store, but installs as iPassword. (don't kill the messenger).

Then use iTunes File Sharing feature to restore from legacy iPassword. I'm still downloading from iTunes content down to my laptop, but when done, I'm hoping to upload legacy iPassword to latest version of iPassword / Password Manager.

I was able to find a work around. I had to restore my iPhone XR I upgraded from in Feb 2021 since the ISO hadn't been updated (I did the restore with iTunes on my Macbook). While the iPhone XR was still connected to iTunes, I went to the "File Sharing" in iTunes for the iPhone XR. I opened the ipassword app that would not work on my iPhone 11 (blue files stacked together). Under the settings in the app there is a "BACKUP & RESTORE". I chose "Via iTunes". I was prompted to enter my app password. I then chose "Backup". That placed a backup file in iTunes. At the bottom right of the page in iTunes, I was able to save the backup file to my Macbook hard drive (I saved it in my documents folder). I installed the new version of the ipassword app (the silver safe trimmed in gold) from the App Store on my iPhone 11 that had the outdated version of ipassword (blue files stacked together). I then connected my iPhone 11 that had the outdated "ipassword" app on it to my Macbook and waited for it to open in iTunes. I went to the "File Sharing" in iTunes. I clicked "Add" in the lower right. I clicked on the backup file I saved in my documents which placed the backup file in the window. I opened the new ipassword app (silver safe trimmed in gold) on my iPhone 11. I went to to the settings "BACKUP & RESTORE". I clicked "Via iTunes" and was prompted for my app password. I then clicked restore. I click "continue" on the iPhone 11 and the backup was loaded into the new app. I then clicked the "back" arrow in the upper left of the app to get back to the main screen of the app. Click on the "logins" icon at the bottom of the app and your passwords show be there. I hope this helps.

Password Manager developer Rongrong Lai - same app name BUT NOT the right one. The developer for this iPassword (APP ID: ****) can be reached via email ****@ yahoo.com. Found this email after successfully reinstalling (see my earlier post today) iPassword on iPad with iOS 14.4.2 and finding "contact us" in settings.

I signed into my husband’s iPhone 6 which had not been updated. I then went into purchased apps and downloaded iPassword onto the phone. After that I installed iMazing on my surface pro and walked thru the steps so kindly provided by a previous user. It worked and I was able to extract the passwords to the iPhone 6. Granted, I then had to write them down but it was a small price to pay. I am fairly competent on computers but certainly not exceptional so it can be done. I tried my iPad instead of the phone first, but it did not work. Good luck!

Thank you @ning295 for giving the steps to recover my ipassword app information!! If anyone is curious, their post is on page 28 and they used the iMazing application on their computer. I had an iPhone that had yet to update and was able to transfer my updated phone's ipasswords app info to the old phone's ipasswords app (which I was able to re-download from the app store). And BOOM, I copied all my passwords and then deleted them and the accursed app.

This methods seems to only work if you have an iDevice that has not installed the new update. Also, I don't know if iMazing is available outside of the US (where I am). But if you're able, this method is worth trying to see if recovery is possible.

ALSO, I saw somewhere that you could restart your phone to get the apps info on an un-updated device. I would not recomend this! For me, it eventually got to a step where I had to install the software update in order to continue. Afterwards I stopped trying on that phone and tried the iMazing method instead.

I was eventually able to get this to work. I remembered my Apple password to get past that hurdle. On my wife’s iPhone, which does not have the latest operating system, when I transferred from imazing it said the Restore was successful but then it had a warning that something went wrong. The app was there but it wouldn’t load. I then tried on an old iPad. That lost the ability to update the operating system a couple of years ago. The restore was successful and I have been able to read and write down all my passwords, thank goodness. So the imazing approach worked well, after some frustration. Thanks to everyone who told us how to fix this.

Jun 22, 2021 7:10 PM in response to abrial6

I was able to access my passwords using “imazing”. What I did was save app data (Ipassword) from my iPhone 11 to my desktop. I then used my sons old iPad with i0s 12.5. I had to make sure he was added to family plan then I was able to download IPassword onto his iPad from my iCloud then use imazing and upload the saved app data. Voilà. If anyone needs any help feel free to reach out

Jun 24, 2021 5:28 PM in response to GracieRhodesAirth

you need to download the imazing app from their website onto your windows PC/laptop and the newer ipassword onto your iphone. the caveat is that all the other steps work EXCEPT when you get to the last one, in order to do the restore, you need a licensed copy of imazing, which is $35 for 1 device. decide which is more important...$35 or your recovered passwords
