When will there be an update to the iPassword app for iOS 14.5? I'm unable to get to my passwords.
iPhone XR
I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.
I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.
Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.
If the developer was going to do anything, it would have been done by now.
There is a method to recover your passwords posted in this forum
search for "iPassword data recovery for iOS 14.5" in this forum and
follow the instructions. You won't have to re-enter your passwords and can keep using the new iPassword.
This has been extremely frustrating, but you all gave me hope. I used a mix of NorCal and GPT2 to get this to work.
I first made a complete back up of my current iPhone XR on my PC. Just in case. I then purchased the $35 iMazing. I felt it right to pay them if they could help me. I followed the steps and made a back up. I did 'save' the iPassword file on my computer. In the end I had two saved. One that was type "iOS APP". This was was much larger in size 10,745 KB. I think the other one is actually the back up of the new iPassword Pro (the one I just paid for, also called Password Manager), this one only has 441 KB. Big difference in the amount of data in those files.
I did try to upload onto my new iPhone the file. But I couldn't figure this out. In the end I did restart an old iPhone 6s. It didn't have the iPassword app on it. So I ended up using iMazing to load the old iPassword app. From there, I used the "Manage apps" using the iPhone 6 from the right hand side of iMazing. From there, I scrolled to the iPassword once I had it loaded. I clicked once to highlight it. On the bottom right, there is a down arrow, clicking that allows you to choose "Restore APP data". I found the large iPassword file I talked about above and put that into the old iPhone. The iMazing how to that NorCal lists was a great stepwise picture guide. Be sure to note the part about the old iPhone restarting and "don't transfer apps & data option", or something like that. It's in the step guide.
Once I did that, I was able to log into the old iPassword on the iPhone 6 and all my passwords were there. Time consuming, but I hand transcribed all my old passwords onto my new iPhone. I didn't want to mess anything up now that I had them.
This was a very painful lesson I learned. But at least I now have them in the new Password Manager pro. I'm also creating a 'hard system' so that this never occurs again.
Good luck out there. Just keep working the problem. I'm so happy I did have a very old iPhone sitting around in my house!
I dowloaded iPassword manager and restored from iCloud and it worked…
Developer page where you can leave a message. It's not the version for iPhone, but it will hopefully get the attention of someone.
On behalf of MRevelles solution{thank you MRevlles}
Download the new "Ipassword manager"free vision and open iTunes and restore from backup
It worked for me.
it should work on dropbox and wifi as well
it will work:) :) :) :)
This has happened to me and iPassword didn’t work with latest iOS14.5
BUT
on exploring my iPhone I found under settings “passwords” and once I signed in with my fingerprint I think most of my passwords and usernames were stored there! So I didn’t really need iPassword after all!
Might be worth taking a look
This person is a genius! This is the answer. Anyone looking for an answer its right here!!!!
You backup the app data of iPassword (using iMazing) by plugging your current iphone into the computer.
https://imazing.com/guides/how-to-export-backup-and-transfer-ios-apps-data-and-settings
Then you plug in your old phone with the old ios and restore it using the file iMazing created. Also in the instruction in the link above. Saved me so much time and grief. I cant thank you enough CPens!!!!!
It should work for you. Here are the directions I gave other people just use your iPad.
Go to iMazing’s site, download the trial, select continue trial on the start up page. Plug in your phone that no longer works with iPassword, it will show in the iMazing browser then find apps and navigate to iPassword. Control click and select Extract App. Save that file to your desktop, it's your password data. You can also backup your phone using iMazing and get the files that way too without having your phone plugged in but then you have to wait for the backup.
Next step. Have your downgraded phone ready, I used an extra iphone 5. Go to the app store on your old phone. Find and select iPassword from your Purchased apps and download it. If it's already on your old phone skip this step. Plug in your old iphone to your computer. Navigate to your phone in iMazing then find iPassword in the IMazing browser, control click on iPassword and select Restore App. Navigate to the file you saved on your desktop and select it. Then follow the iMazing prompts. I recreated these directions for myself and it worked for me again. Good luck.
I restored a backup from iCloud on an old iPhone 6s Plus, then the iPassword app opened as a first time installation, setup with a master password, then restored then app data from iCloud, finally all my passwords are available .
get an iPhone 8 (I borrowed one from a friend) I also have a Mac.
Go to settings, General, reset and choose Erase All Contents and Settings
when your iPhone 8 starts. Do your regular setting up like it was new
when it asks you if you want to backup…choose other options
make sure you choose to backup NOT with the latest backup, but preferably with a backup of year 2020
or before the release of the iOS 14.5 this will give access to IPASSWORD because at this time you do not want
to update your iPhone 8.
Open ipassword like you used to, and start taking detail pics of your list of passwords, do not forget to unveil your password
before you take the pics
this pics will be store in your iCloud make sure you can see them in your iCloud before you clean your iPhone 8
this sound stupid but that is what I did….get pic by pic and copy manually all your passwords onto your new password app.
I bought 1password.
Sorry, I know the method is very primitive..but that is the most effective way I could come up with.
I’m glad it worked for
you. To get passwords transferred to notes you can use the email function in iPassword but don’t send the email. Just create an email, copy and paste the information to notes, then delete the email. I wouldn’t want that information in a single email just in case so I deleted the draft. From there I started to copy and paste to my new password keeper, LastPass. Easier than typing, for me at least.
This is my last post on this thread so I would recommend anyone new coming here to go back and read the thread. There are a lot of tips that have worked. It took me a day to figure it out for myself and I posted my solution for others to get their passwords back but if you don’t want to take 5 minutes to read the thread then that’s on you.
good luck.
I solved it like this. I took my old outdated iphone. I downloaded an old version of iPassword again, I restored my back up on Dropbox and I recovered all the passwords (fortunately the last backup was very recent). After I sent the file with all the passwords via email, I installed Bit warden and, one by one, I copied them on the new app. Clearly. after I modified all of them since sending via email is not safe. But it was the only way to get them back. Alternatively, you can copy them by hand from iPassword to the new app.
I bought myself a subscription to LastPass. It has phone app and web browser support so you can always recover your passwords. Other products do this too.
To transfer passwords from my phone to computer I used the copy/email function in iPassword to transfer the passwords to apple notes. To get passwords transferred to notes you’ll see an arrow pointing to the right at the top of the app screen. Select it while you’re on the logins screen. I think you’ll have to select each password manually in iPassword then choose copy (should copy the passwords you have selected then paste to notes) or choose email. If you choose email don’t send it, just copy and paste the information from the email to notes, then delete the email. I wouldn’t want that sensitive information in a single email so I deleted the draft. From there I shared the notes with airdrop to my Mac then started to copy and paste passwords to my new password manager, LastPass. Easier than typing them all.
I know that sounds like a lot but better to be secure. iPassword doesn’t have many options for transferring the data. So a entire copy and paste of my passwords was the best solution I could figure out.
All of them are apps that the developers have abandoned some long ago. 14.6 contains critical security updates so one can not update to use their obsolete and abandoned app and take the security risk or update and figure out a way to retrieve the data and use a better app. Pick your poison.
I downloaded this one and had a last go at restoring the data from the old version. I went into iTunes and attached my iPhone (which is already at 14.6) and went to file share. I added a file to the new app using a backup already on my PC. Using restore in settings in new version, I pressed continue, and my data was loaded. In the end it seemed easy, but it was stressful getting there.
