iPassword App not working on iOS 14.5

When will there be an update to the iPassword app for iOS 14.5? I'm unable to get to my passwords.

I too had this problem. I spent a day trying to recover my Ipassword data after the 14.5.1 update. Checked with Apple which was a dead end, surfed the internet for solutions and finally came up with one that worked for me. I downloaded the trial version of iMazing software which extracted the iPassword software/data which I was able to install on an old phone that I have.

I did have to go into my purchases in the App store with the old iphone 5 and download iPassword from there as it no longer shows up in the general app store list. Once I had iPassword on my iphone 5 iMazing populated the password data from the backup I made from my iphone XS. I downloaded the iMazing software from their website rather than on CNet or other aggregators of software online, seemed less sketchy to me, plus, there are tutorials on their website. . Anyway, the free version worked for me, I'm thinking of buying it just to support the company for saving me the headache of resetting all of those passwords.

Pretty unacceptable that an update would brick software that's so mission critical without warning. Maybe Apple could write into iOS updates a list of software that would become incompatible before the update is installed? Then users can make sure they have a backup of their data.

Thank you all for all the posts on this issue. Went into meltdown after upgrading my iPhone to 14.6 and then being locked out of my passwords. I followed the posts re iMazing app and using my iPad (running 14.4) followed tyhe instructions and msansged to get back all my passwords. I have now stored them elsewhere. Thanks to the person who worked out the hack via iMazing - saved me masses of heartache.

Check out my post above about using the app "Imazing" and extracting the app data and installing it on an older ios. if you dont have an older phone, I recommend buying one second hand. An Iphone 5 worked for me so you can get one for as old as that. once you install the app data on the old phone, it can be read. I recommend installing your apple account on the device first, because that may effect the app(maybe, not sure).

Then wthin the app on the old phone you can then export a backup file from the app to itunes, and restore that file on the newest version of this app on your new phone(just follow the app's instructions)!

Ok I am no computer wiz but I tried allot of these things on the board and tooke some from many suggestion and here is what I did to get my passwords back.

IPhone 8 was at IOS 14.6 could not get into I password

My IPad was at 14.4.2 but I did not have I password on it

I went to the ITunes store and from the purchased apps I found the original I pasword app that would not work on IPhone

I downloaded the App to my Ipad.

I then went into my I password app on my IPad and downloaded my passwords from the cloud

They all download perfectly to my IPad

and no my IPad is going to be stuck at 14.4.2 until I find a replacment for IPassword

I hope this helps somebody

I forgot to mention, after copying the backup file: ipassword.date.backup to Dropbox, I used the new version of the app (with the gold border) to restore the files using: Settings, Backups & Restore Via Dropbox. It showed it was restoring something. and then asked for a password/pin. This is where you need to use the pin that was associated with the old app, the one you used to backup the file via wifi!!!

Hope that helps clarify, it is very confusing....

My method does NOT require a previous backup or iMazing... my method DOES require you to have or borrow a device (iPad or iPhone) that has the older version of iOS though, but if you can get a device with an older version of iOS you will get all your data back and can even import it into the new version of iPassword or you can export it to a new app. :-)

I posted it not too far back or I can post it again...

Let me know.

How many of the pages in this thread did you read prior to posting? Any? If not particularly read the posts from CPens which gives a workaround. There are also others.

Apple didn't screw their customers. The developer of this 3rd party app did that. When they abandoned this app to go to a new app they charge for they could have emailed all of their customers, including you, and said "I am discontinuing this app but releasing a new won. You need to download and use the new one as I will not be updating the old one." They didn't. They also didn't withdraw their app from the app store and used a different database format for the new app. All of these items are on the 3rd party developer, not Apple. You aren't using an app from Apple, such as Keychain. If you were and Apple abandoned it you could be mad at them. But you didn't, you purchased a 3rd party app to hold your data. You didn't keep up with it and didn't notice that it was no longer updated. And when Apple provided them with the beta versions of 14.6 and warned them they needed to do security updates the developer ignored that.

You need to go back and read the Terms of Use in buying 3rd party apps from the App Store. And Apple cannot patch up a 3rd party app, it isn't theirs.

Thank goodness I found this solution! It worked for me, too! I do suggest that you follow the directions on the iMazing website to extract and restore JUST the app data -- don't guess. I had an old 6s Plus that was running iOS 13.1.3 to which I was going to restore the current app data. But when I started restoring the app data, I realized that I was restoring the entire phone and not just the app data -- and it started updating my phone to iOS 14.6! I would have been up a creek if that happened, since you can't even open the app under 14.6!!! I unplugged my phone and stopped it just in time. The phone recovered and then I followed the directions (crisis averted, lesson learned). Using Wi-Fi or DropBox wouldn't work for me, I tried. iMazing was the only thing that worked.

The free/trial version of iMazing was sufficient to extract the app data but not to restore it; I had to pay the $35.99 to restore the data to one device, which was the 6s Plus running 13.1.3. But, the upside is that now I have the ability to restore data to this phone for a lifetime. Now I understand the value of keeping an old device, and I plan to keep this one on hand on purpose for this specific purpose!

Like the others, I'm going to find another password manager app -- hopefully owned by either Apple or Google -- so there's less chance of things like this happening. Apple should make a fail-safe to enable people who download and use apps like this in good faith to be able to go back. When developers are irresponsible with their updates and don't give people notice ahead of time, there should be a way to revert to the previous iOS or choose a specific version of it. The user shouldn't be punished. The time wasted on recovering the data is ridiculous and stressful.

The free version of iMazing did work for me. The instructions attached show you the steps needed. You have already done the first half of the process but the rest of the steps to follow show you how to put your passwords into the new iPassword. It also explains how iPassword backup works so that you will always have a back-up of the data using iPasswords own function for backup and recovery. This is a data only back-up and recovery, not an app backup and recovery.

OMG!!!! I have my passwords back! I'm thrilled!! I had to purchase the Imazing app for $44.99 (probably wouldn't have needed the two device plan, but I didn't know if I would need that for the two phones. I backed up my newer phone to Imazing, then I had an old phone that I restored to 2017 (back when the app first wouldn't open) from Itunes (and it's not updated). I restored the old version of Ipassword to the old phone, and BAM!!! the passwords from when I last opened it before the update that wouldn't allow Ipassword to open. I'm so happy, I could jump for joy! Tomorrow I'm going to be putting the passwords in a spreadsheet. I already purchased the newer version because I was familiar with the app.

I was able to use iMazing to extract ipassword info from the phone Apple screwed with their latest update and was able to restore the info into my old phone. I actually paid for iMazing and I have to say… it’s kinda cool. It can do a lot of stuff. I may actually stop using itunes because it is annoying and convoluted crap! Sorry Apple but the only reason I’m still using your crap is because you have a firm grip on my data and it would be painful to get out but Immclose to pulling the plug. I don’t need your bs phone and tactical updates designed to slow down and annoy among other things. No one really talks about it but if I was to describe my satisfaction. I’m at a 3 out of 10.
