Safari no longer opens Facebook

Safari reaches only a blank page on Facebook with my MacBook Pro, where is was OK until very recently. I see many people have had the same problem. Having searched online what the problem is with Safari, and tried everything, my solution is to abandon Safari and use Chrome, which works fine. If Apple can't even work out how to solve this problem with their own software other than "try this try that" to no avail, I can only accept that the browser is not fit for purpose.
