M1 Mac mini kept crashing with a pink screen. This is not good, Apple.

Before I updated it to Big Sur. 11.3, I kept reporting that my M1 Mac mini kept crashing with green or pink screen and then restart it by itself. I sent it to Apple for inspection but they said the hardware is totally fine.

I updated to 11.3 and I was expecting better. Guess what? Wrong. It crashed multiple times within a week after updating 11.3. All I was using was Safari. No log in items, no other software but safari. If the Mac is keep crashing then it must be the problem with macOS or software. But then, I'm not using or running any other software on M1 Mac mini.

This is my 2nd M1 Mac mini and the crash issue occurred since the beginning. That's right, since last November. I returned the first one and hoping for better experience with M1 Mac but honestly, this is seriously unstable product to work with. I really can't use this while I'm working. This is very disappointing experience and I have no idea what else to do since Apple is not able to figure out what's the problem.

It's only a month old and I really think macOS itself for Apple Silicon is the problem since Im not having any issues with Intel Mac with Big Sur. Since I'm not the only one having this issue, it is very frustrating to ask help as Apple is not able to solve this problem.

I had a chance to shoot a pic but it suddenly happens so it's quite impossible to capture the moment as it randomly crash. What am I suppose to do then?

Mac mini, macOS 11.3

Hi Sunshine7913,

Welcome trio the Apple Community where some of used our best to help each other.

Wondering if you have any third-party (non-Apple) software that might conflict with the operating system on your Mac.

You wouldn't necessarily need to have them open, for them to cause trouble.

(Eg: Some anti-virus apps, or content blockers etc may be incompatible, and cause strife. (Apple doesn't need them.)

Also, software that might need updating to be able to work with Big Sur ... apps need to be 64 bit, for 32 bit no longer works.

I understand that if Chrome is installed it can interfere, overloading the memory )

There's another discussion thread on the pink screen issue that might be helpful

(An Apple Support article is mentioned in that thread, that might help troubleshoot:)

If your Mac restarted because of a problem:

Hope something here will help you solve the issue :)

If your Big Sur software (Silicon) is similar to mine (Intel), you can easily check through your installed applications:

  • Click the Apple icon on the left in the top menu bar, and Choose "About this Mac".
  • Click "System Report" (white button on the Bottom Left)
  • Scroll down the sidebar to the "Software" list and click "Applications"
  • Wait till the list of Applications loads, and look for the column headed "Kind"
  • Compatible applications will be the kind "Universal" and you needn't worry about them.
  • Some other kinds of apps may still run ok ... as the M1 chip can handle them.

if you find unnecessary / unusable / or incompatible apps :

You might be able to update them to be compatible:

OR

I understand you would need an actual uninstaller from the developer to delete all of the scattered files involved.

Cheers :)

I tested with a new partition and clean instal but it still crashing. I didn't even download any 3rd party apps at all! This is not right to me. I attached the video of the moment right before it freezes and crashes with a pink screen. I still need to test it for few more days but something is not right.
