Report was attached in correspondence above. I have 3,000+ files in the Downloads folder, with such on 11.3.1 you can't scroll in list view and Finder crashes. If you change to column view it works, if you have less files in the folder as now I've done with only 400 it scrolls, so.... Apple bug! nothing to do with anything in my report, this is their bug with Finder. No issue with 11.3, only occurred after the 11.3.1 update as mentioned.

I cannot open files or folders, move files between Finder windows only from the Downloads folder. Other folders/locations (whatever you want to cal them) in Finder seem to work ok, it's just the Downloads folder. It hangs.

If I delete a file from Downloads and try to open Trash or cmd+shift+backspace to to empty, that hangs and I can only click empty on the touch bar or have to force quit Finder and then open Trash and empty it. It's like I can't do anything in the "Downloads" folder (in quotes to make that clear).

The Downloads folder will not scroll, open any files with Quicklook (spacebar) or double clicking to open in its assigned app, or folders in List view, but does in Columns view. It makes no sense why this is happening!?

I have moved some files to another SSD drive and scrolling there with them works too. So List view for Big Sur 11.3.1 for the Downloads folder is broken!

Help!!! Apple.

With No Time Machine Backup ( users Choice ) one is at the mercy of " System modifications - There are a large number of system modifications running in the background. ".These modifications must have been executed by the user and as such - find it difficult to find a solution. I do not see a way back to previous working version Big Sur 11.3 except if the User has Made a Bootable Clone pre-dating the 11.3.1 update.

Modification do not Just Happen - it requires purposeful actions initiated by the user. Please review the outline below

Security updates disabled - requires action by user to disable

No Time Machine backup - choice and requires user inaction

System modifications - There are a large number of system modifications running in the background. - Requires user actions

Kernel extensions present - This computer has kernel extensions that may not work in the future. - Requires user action

Yeh, Apple modified something, not me. Purposeful actions by Apple with the update! Stop trying to blame the user, this is Apple's fault with the update. 11.3 was working, 11.3.1 NOT!

Security updates are not disabled, they are installed when a user decides to update through system update, just because I decide not to install them automatically is my choice as I don't want something to get messed up without me deciding. (1)

I do not have to have Time Machine. (2)

No system modifications have been made by me. (3)

If Apple had better management and design then users would not have to use 3rd party kernels such as Turbo Boost (not the issue!) to manage battery life and save their legs from getting burnt as the comp gets hot - see YouTube and these discussion threads for 100's of complaints. (4)

SO, not my issue. The Apple 11.3.1 update is buggy and has caused this failure for Finder. I have not modified Finder!

Whilst help is appreciated, you are simply repeating details in a report I have sent that are not the cause. :-/

Installed from system pref's software update and then downloaded from the App Store and re-installed... same issue Finder does not work in List view to scroll files in the downloads folder. Is there some kind of limit to how many files you can have before it bugs out and crashes, won't let you scroll etc? Was working with 11.3, not working with 11.3.1.... :'(
