Paint chipping on my IPhone 12 (Blue)

Hi, i purchased my IPhone 12 about 5 months back, i started noticing paint chipping off near my camera lens and it bothered me alot cause its a costly phone and this shouldn't happen. At first it was just a dot now it's worse and i don't know how or who to contact to get this fixed. We pay a hefty huge amount for these phone's and this shouldn't happen! Apple should be ashamed of such low quality paint job.Does anyone else have this problem with their new IPhone?

iPhone 12, iOS 14

Apple does not warrant against cosmetic issues. They will NOT replace your phone for chipped paint around the camera surrounds. Post all you want, it won't get you anything. If your iPhone is not in a protective case, which protects the camera surrounds, that's on you. Go out to Amazon.com and buy camera surround protection in multiple colors if the cosmetic damage bothers you.

Hi everyone! Thank you for sharing your case with me. Would like to update that I went to the local Apple Center and they couldn’t help due to the limitations of the warranty. As I don’t believe this to be a merely cosmetic issue and more like a bad batch of an inferior quality for the back casing (as the lens’ rims are part of the back casing), plus the fact that the phone is barely 3months old in use, I seek further advise directly with Apple Care. It seems like all the enquiries made to the local Apple Support doesn’t reach the Apple Care product specialist / engineers. Apple Care people don’t read this thread and not aware there’re hundreds of conversations concerning this topic. So, I recommend you do the same if you want ie contact Apple Care directly. My case is now being looked into by the Apple Care product engineer.

i am facing the same issue and apparently Apple provides no solution for this. I contacted the customer care and service centre they clearly said cosmetic damage is not what they fix.

This is really frustrating as this is a major issue with iPhone 12 and apple is not paying heed to it. We pay hefty premium for their products and they deliver a poor paint job and when we want to invoke our right they outright don’t care.

I’ve had the exact same problem!! I bought a green iPhone 13 a month ago and the phone paint started chipping and I took it back and they replaced the phone.

now I’m 3 weeks into have the new one and it’s happening again!

so unhappy with the quality of the iPhone I’ve had iPhones all my life and this has never happened! Not to mention the fact that the phone is over 1K!!!

Bro there is a difference in colour removing due to scratch and colour peeling off due to no reason. It is only seen in blue model and peeling off starts initially near camera lens first. So dont comment without knowing anything, its a manufacturing defect and i even went to apple care when i saw them its peeling off from camera they even give me a right reason why its happening and moreover they only telling like a parrot that warranty dont cover cosmic damage so we cant do anything.

Hi,

Same issue with my Iphone 11 within 3-4 months it started paint chipping at camera lens. Its really bad experience with apple as they are global leading brand giving this kind of quality product. Even i had visited to service center and multiple follow up with apple support. Only reply is its not covered under warranty ( cosmetic damage). However it seems this issue is in large number of phone which prove that this is manufacturing defect in paint section.

Request team keep posted if any solution on this

I have the same dilemma. The apple support for Philippines told me that it CAN be covered since iphone 13 is still new and I noticed the paint chipping after just 8 weeks. She told me to go to an authorized store for it to be checked and possible solution is replacement of lens frame. I decided not to push through since I know it will take weeks or months. I also thought that the problem might reoccur since the problem is on the paint and aluminum material used for the phone.

Hi. It's not even 6months since I purchased iPhone 12 and have been extremely carefull with the use but The color around the camera has started to wear off. And the service centres say that warranty cannot be claimed for cosmetic damage. I have been in contact with many of the customer care executive and been visiting many centres day in and day out to rectify the same but sadly haven't got it resolved.it also shocked by the way how a valued customer is been addressed! Seems like Apple does not care about their customers after their product has been sold. Such a SHAME!!! I am extremely saddened by the quality of service apple is providing to a regular customer like me.

Apple are in total denial about this manufacturing issue, brushing it off as cosmetic damage when the reality is that the phone cannot handle ordinary wear and tear - this is precisely what it should be designed to handle. And consequently this paint chipping falls out of their warranty cover and they won’t do anything about it - zero.

I’ve had a really unpleasant and unsatisfactory experience with apple about this - they are refusing to acknowledge that there is a problem when there clearly is one and brushing off customers like they are the ones at fault is appalling.

No one here can solve anything. You're NOT speaking with Apple. This is a user to user only forum. Your cameras, look like they've taken some abuse. But Apple doesn't warrant for cosmetic damage.

Feel free to schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and show it to Apple, but you can be pretty assured, they'll tell you there is nothing they can do.
